Plus/Minus Rating

Sat Apr 10, 2004 2:00 pm

Yes, the Canucks are my boys and I follow hockey like a religion. The only thing I have never understood about the individual stats is the plus/minus rating. How is that a factor? What is used to figure a player's plus/minus rating? Thanks for your help and.....

GO CANUCKS!!

If a player is on the ice when an even-strength goal is scored by his team, he gets +1. If the goal is scored by the other team, he gets -1.

If you are on the ice and your team scores a goal you get a + if you are on the ice and the other team scores you get a minus...

Example if you are on the ice when your team scores 2 goals and on the ice when the other team scores 1 goal you would be a +1
but if you are on the ice when your team scores 1 goal and the other team scores 2 you would be a -1 likewise if the number is the same you would be a +/- 0.

Just add and subtract the numbers at the end of the game and you get your +/- for the game, do the same for the season and you get the +/- for the season, just add/subtract the +/- from each game

It's only even-strength or shorthanded goals, though.
