XP Icon Problem

Tue Apr 13, 2004 10:23 am

Ok, my uncle was over this weekend, and being the computer nerd he is, I asked him if he could help me clean up my computer to make it go as fast as possible. So he changed a few things, deleted a few things, etc... However, one thing he changed, I really don't like. In windows 95, 98, and 2000 the icons on the desktop have a block of color behind the icon name. XP (which is what I have) does not, it has the icon, and its name under it, with out this chunk of color behind it, blocking my desktop pictures. Unfortunately my uncle changed this, so now my icons HAVE that color behind them again, just like 95, 98, 2000.

So my question is: HOW DO I CHANGE IT BACK? lol. I have tried everything I can think of, but I can't do it. I hope someone out there can enlighten me. Thank you!

um.... Ask your Uncle? Or you can always roll back to the day before he changed it.

Uncle is on vacation in Moscow. Needless to say, he is unreachable at the moment, and for the next 6 weeks. He was at my house because I live close to the airport, he stayed the night, and flew out the next morning. I wish it were that easy.

Anyone?

First thing to check would be the display settings in the control panel. XP automaticly shows icons using all possible colors. Open display and click on the last tab called settings, see if you can up the screen resolution and color quality settings....

This may help.

Open System Properties in Control Panel, choose the Advanced tab, and click Settings in the Performance section. Turn on the Use drop shadows for icon labels on the desktop option, and click Ok.
