Report Your Local Gas Prices

Tue Apr 20, 2004 6:58 am

The price of gas is really getting ugly here in the Chicago area. I got really lucky and filled up at Speedway yesterday for 1.89 for unldeaded. All the Gas Citys are at 2.05 for unleaded and up to 2.17 for premium. I've heard that gas prices will reach as high as 3.00 during the summer and then will be dramatically cut in September to help boost Bush's re-election.

Yesterday, I saw a station selling unleaded (91 octane) fuel for €1.129 per liter here in Munich...

... which, at the current rate converts into $1.35 per liter...
... a gallon being, if I recall correctly, 3.78 liters...
... so the price per gallon of unleaded fuel here is: $5.10.

And you guys call something like $1.89 per gallon ugly???

Regards,
Frank

The cheap gas is running around $1.68 a gallon here in Atlanta; last week when I was in Nevada, I saw the cheap stuff running at one station in Las Vegas for $2.04, most other stations it was around $2.11-$2.15 a gallon. Coming back from Hoover Dam, I saw a station in Boulder City that had the cheap gas @ $2.49 a gallon.

April 18th near YYZ I paid 85.5 cents for a litre.

The "billboard" sign at the Petro Canada indicated 79.9/litre. After pumping a for a while I noticed the pump was charging the higher value (85.5 cents) and NOT the indicated price on the large billboard sign.

I immediately stopped and notified the manager. He then told me the indicated pump price overrules the other. I was in a hurry so I paid my money.

Did I have a legitimate argument having two different prices shown?

Just curious.

About $2.20-$2.50 here in San Diego.
Considering the national average is something like a $1.80, it just goes to show you how much we are being ripped off here in California.

Andreas,

I worked at a gas station in my younger years. What the manager told you is bullshit, the price on the billboard prevails. The billboard price acts like a "contract", once the customer is on the station property that means he agreed to pay the price indicated on the billboard, he is entitled to fill up at that price. This is how it works for Shell, if I were you I'd enquire about this with the Ontario consumer protection agency.

u guys in Europe look like you have enormously higher gas prices than people here in the US

what could be responsible for this? is it just a higher tax on gas because of where it's imported from?

Interestingly, NJ is the only state that requires by law that all gas stations are full service, yet we have the cheapest prices in the nation. My dad filled up his Acura TL today at the Shell in my town. $1.51 per gallon of regular, $1.61 for plus, $1.71 for premium.

Most everywhere else, you pay a higher amount per gallon for full service, right? It's really entertaining when we go on vacation with a rental car and he has no clue how to use the self serve pump.

On a side note, maybe we can afford those employees because the transportation costs for getting the gas to stations is so low...all the oil refineries are right along the Turnpike near EWR!

There daily commute cost is eating up all of there savings from live in or near the city.

The gas price in the Tucson area has dropped to $1.89 per gallon from $1.95. I don't like it much but it's far less than I paid 20 years ago when adjusted for inflation.

To all Americans:

The price of oil is high mainly because the demand is high, due to the SUV and big blocks craze. So don't complain now (if you drive yourself such a ridiculous car) that the gas is not free (which it is in fact, considering you have very low taxes on it).

Last month in the US, I actually cried seeing how low gas prices were.

Currently in Elbonia, I pay around 1.1 euro/litre, which is 4.16 euro/gal.

At today's conversion rate, that's $4.97/gal for regular unleaded...

Oh, and my car is around 9.5l/100km, which is about 25 mpg...

707, paying way too much to drive

It's $0.80 a litre (98 Octane Unleaded) here in Beirut and that is due to high taxes which is being implemented for the past few years.

Only 3-4 years ago, it used to cost about $0.30 per litre. Crazy!

Since Denmark is in the middle of a price war on gas, the prices varies throughout the day. But at the moment, it's 1.37$/1.15€ for a litre of fuel in Denmark - which ads up to around 5.18$ pr. gallon. Though it'll probably go back up to around 7$ gallon once the price war ends.

And you guys are whining about high prices  Laugh out loud

The reason why fuel is so expensive here in Europe? Simple: taxes, nothing but taxes.

And regardless of who's in the government and who's the opposition - the opposition will always complain about the increases made by the government, but as soon as the government changes, no-one will take the increases back.

And, here in Germany, our current government had actually announced their "Öko-Steuer" (Eco-Tax) before they were elected the first time around... that brought us an increase of taxes of €0.03 per year for (I think) four years in a row, on top of the taxes that, even before, were way too high.
