Dogs Or Cats?

Wed Apr 21, 2004 12:05 pm

Which do you prefer? Or do you hate them both? lol

For me...dogs all the way. Here's a pic of Joe, who just turned nine this month. He crashes with me every now and then, and more often than not, he takes up damn near the whole bed.

I have two cats, Bert and Ernie (they had those names before I adopted them at the shelter.)

Bert is a black and white tuxedo, very slim with slanted eyes, huge pointy ears and a tapered tail... The body of a Siamese cat without the coloring.

Ernie is a brown and black spotted tabby, built like a normal housecat except that he has slightly larger-than-normal ears and a pointed chin... The body of a normal cat... but with the voice of a Siamese yowler!

They are littermates of a ...guess?... Siamese female that got knocked up by a domestic male by accident. They were apparently the only two of the litter who didn't appear Siamese and weren't sold. I got them when they were 1-1/2 years old, already neutered and 4-paw declawed.
Up, up and away!

Having grown up with both, I love both dogs and cats, however I think cats will always occupy that special place for me. I think in part because cats are more expressive in their emotions than dogs. If they're happy, you know it. If they're pissed off...ohhhh, you'll know it! Dogs are also great, however I just find cats to have a bit more of a personality with an independent streak.

We have three cats, Ralphy, Midnight and Dipsy. Ralphy is a skinny grey-striped cat whom we adopted about six years ago at the age of two. He is without doubt the Alpha cat of the household, very bold and dominant, but extremely friendly towards people. Midnight is all-black and about the same age as Ralphy. She is very quiet and meek, so much so that I joke that she's actually a stuffed cat. Her only sign of life comes at dinnertime, as she has an insatiable appetite for people food and will beg until fed. Finally, Dipsy is three years old, a huge orange blob - he probably weighs close to 20 pounds. He's also comically timid; if a vistor is in the house, Dipsy will disappear and won't be seen for hours. Midnight hates Dipsy.

I have a teenie little rottweiller, she has a cat. I sometimes think the bitch (female canine in this case) cares more for her cat than she does me.  Smile/happy/getting dizzy

I know the cat loves the dog and cares not a bit for me.

The exception being, of course, my rottweillers cat. Your dog might, just might, get to the rabbit in the desert, but the bitch protects them too.

I like both cats and dogs.

When I was growing up we had a St. Bernard she was a beautiful dog. She was big, but very gentle. She passed away in 1989 of a heart attack at age 14.

Since then we have had cats. Right now we have a 11 month old male cat named Noodles. He is basically orange with some faint brown stripes along the back. He is a very good cat (except he can get a bit rough sometimes when he is playing) He loves to sleep on my lap. Noodles is a strictly indoor cat, he is not allowed outside at all.

I still think I prefer dogs though. I would like a Greyhound or another Golden Retreiver. Who knows what a Sharplaninets is? I used to have one of those too.

I like both, dogs and cats.

Now I have a Dalmatian male (liver colour), 4 years old. He is a perfect watchdog for our house in Southern India. He has got enough place all around our house to play. I brought him with me in the plane (cabin) from Switzerland to India when he was three months old. He likes to play on the beach near the waves. His name is Bengalo. I have chosen this name because his future will be at the fascinating Bay of Bengal.

The way my dog looks attentively at me when I speak to him helps me to understand that he wants to remain my friend.

Cheers. Kilavoud.

Shushka,

He is an Italian Greyhound. They are considered the miniature variety and usually stay between 10-15 lbs. Here are a couple of photos of the trio.

Dogs rule!  Smokin cool  Big thumbs up

Cats are cute but I find many of there owners to be very high strung.

When I get my own house with a yard, I'd like to get a Bernese Mountain dog, Newfoundland, Collie, St. Bernard or Siberian Husky.

Most importantly, they will NOT wake up the neighboors at night. Big grin

Cats for me, all the way. Dogs are so needy and dependent. I have three cats. My two boys are part Siamese and are very friendly and social. They visit with everyone when we have people over. My gray fuzzy girl, Emily, is not as friendly. She gets scared of people she doesn't know. But all of them are very attached to us and we adore them. They are always waiting when I get home and are very pleased to see me. They are all very vocal and talk to us constantly. They sleep on the bed every night - and sometimes in the bed, snuggled up to us. They are not 'lazy' or 'useless' - they are wonderful companions, without being needy or jumping all over everybody who comes in and without us having to dominate them to keep them under control.
But that was when I ruled the world

ScarletHarlot, I agree, cats are NOT "lazy" or "useless". My three each have their own personalities......... and they are really cute. My doggie gets along great with all three of the cats. They are all buddies and yes, they all love to curl up on the bed when its time to retire for the night!!!!

At first I though you were trying to play a fast one...... because you are a very resourceful guy!!! But yes, "Little Grey Guy" is a pussy and a cute one at that! Oh, and your choice of dogs is good... I have a friend who has 2 Newfoundlanders and another with a St. Bernard.... they are amazing dogs. When I get another it will be an "Airdale Terrier"... I've always wanted one ever since I was about 6 yrs old. But I'm going to get another Horse first.... move into a nice rural home and have a few nice big dogs... and FREEDOM!!

I have 2 kitties who I love dearly!
Dogs are too much trouble for me. Too needy  Big grin

My kitties are waiting at the door when I come home and follow me everywhere. I never knew cats talked so much until I got these two! They communicate with you all the time with little meows and "chirps" and all kinds of noises.
My little girl sleeps basically right ontop my stomach (husband hates that because I wont kick them out of bed)
then groans and complains when I have to get up at 3:30am to get ready for work! Too funny!

Actually Little Gray Guy's owner is a friend of a friend of mine. He is an older British guy that lives in Santa Monica, California. His ex-wife left him because she got tired of these young sexy women coming over possing with there cat. So she left him and the cat.
Next time your in SoCal, would you like to pay Little Gray Guy a visit? Big grin

Wine produced from grapes that have frozen on the vine. It has a very concentrated, sweet flavor. It's also very expensive.
