Chevrolet Blazer

I need some advice regarding the -04 Chevrolet Blazer, not the facts I can find at, but more "customer" reports about performance, how much you can load in to it while 4 people are traveling in it and stuff like that, please spare me of comment like "crappy car", "go for the XXX XXX instead".

Get the Trailblazer - in line 6, much newer design.

We own nothing by GM cars/trucks/SUVs and you would be much happier with the Trailblazer.

The Blazer is based on the old S10 platform. Not bad but very narrow and you would find the Trail blazer to have more room.

Engines - the 4.3 V6 in the Blazer is a real workhorse but the in line 6 in the Trailblazer is even better. (V8 power with inline 6 fuel economy)

Here are Blazer Reviews.
Make sure that you check the year of the Review before reading as the Blazer was redone in 2001 and some people expect thier car with 70,000 miles to be like new. (must cut/paste)

Keep in mind that the Blazer sold in the E.U. might be very diffrent from whats sold in the US.

I'm not sure why they still produce this dinasaur. Pratically the most out-dated SUV on the road. There are better choices.

Actually the Blazer is not official sold in Sweden, only Trailblazer and Tahoe, but you can import cars/SUV's to Sweden from US without that much hassle, with some VOLVO models it's actually cheaper to import from US then buy from the VOLVO dealers in Sweden due to the current low rate of the U$. That's why I go for the US reports.

Owned two Blazers in my life, a '93 and a '97. Family and friends have owned/own some as well.

Both were simply great vehicles. The '93 could take anything I threw at it. I put over a 100K trouble-free miles on that truck.

The '97 in which I recently got rid of in favor of my 2003 Tahoe 5.3 was just as good.

Flight152 seems to think they are the satan of vehicles, but I've argued with him time and time again, and he's never gonna shutup about how crappy he thinks they are.

Of course, a lot of people on this board are gonna spout off about how Blazers, and GM vehicles for that matter, are crappy. I wouldn't listen to them, because a lot of them have little or no experience with the subject and will believe anything that the biased Consumer Reports tells them.

From my perspective, and personally over 350,000 miles experience with these Blazers, they are the most underrated SUVs. The 4.3L is without a doubt the best thing about them, it's reliable, out-performs most other SUV V6s, and is pretty fuel efficient. It's based on the GM 350 V8 which is also one of the best engines they've produced.

The biggest issues you're gonna have with the Blazer are the interior cheapness and the front suspension is a little weak. I rebuilt the front suspension of my '93 and replaced the balljoints on my '97. It's really not too big of a task. The interior is cheap like most GMs, but it comes at a cheap price. This is not a fancy SUV.

If you can find a good buy on one, I would personally recommend it. But if you have more $$$, go for the Trailblazer. It's a new design, more powerful, and bigger than the ol S10 Blazers.

Both are great vehicles, and I think you'll be happy with whatever you choose!

Some people are like slinkies - not good for anything, but they bring a smile to your face when pushed down the stairs
