A Car Just For Women

Wed Apr 28, 2004 6:56 am

The Volvo YCC, designed by women for women.

http://www.conceptlabvolvo.com/vcc/ycc/

Is it truly necessary for a female specific car?

I have always had the idea of letting female multimedia-producers design a computer game. Computer games and cars are two business areas dominated by men where products are getting more and more similar. Somehow those big companies miss an important part of the market.

So is the washer/dryer standard, or optional?

Wasn't the 1994 Ford Mustang designed by a woman?

"IF YOU MEET THE EXPECTATIONS OF WOMEN YOU EXCEED THE EXPECTATIONS OF MEN"
Marti Barletta, gender trend specialist.

What a load of crap.

Judging by the YYC features which seem important in the questionnaire, I'd say Volvo is designing a car for incompetent owner/operators of motor vehicles. A demographic, obviously, not exclusive to females...
I see this marketing venture of Volvo's as a step in the wrong direction. The sole purpose of designing and building a motor car should be to facilitate the skill of driving. A skill which is gravely lacking in many of the motorists today. Owners should have proper knowledge of their vehicles and be able to at least perform minor maintenance. Far too many car owners are illiterate and incompetent when it comes to their motor vehicles. We seem to be living in an age where ignorance and incompetence is rewarded. A reflection of this can be seen by the emphasis placed on such marketing practises as demonstrated here by Volvo for the YYC. Instead of making the drivers look forward to learning about owning/operating their cars, car manufacturers are making motorists more comfortable with their ignorance of their cars and their driving skills. Don't know how to park? That's okay... The car will do it for you. Don't know how to check your oil nor tires? That's okay... The car will do it for you. Absent minded? That's okay... Our cars don't have keys nor fuel filler caps. Don't know how to read a map? That's okay... The car will tell you where to go. When are car manufacturers going to build a car that takes care of the insurance premiums? I'd certainly buy one!
Car manufactures should stick to designing and building cars for competent motorists, regardless of gender or sexual orientation. Boeing doesn't design and build planes with female or gay pilots in mind, do they? I'm just scratching the surface...

Didn't Chrysler beat Volvo to the punch years ago with the Neon?

And what the hell is a "gender trend specialist"????

Nothing more than clever advertising, feel good thing.
So if they where serious, why not put it in production and let the consumers
have their say?

I agree with DLKAPA, I'm flattered but even buying me a car won't get me to sleep with you. How many times do you have to ask?

That being said, I'd gladly act a bit girly for a while if you'd buy me a car.

For the chance to resell a £10,000+ car and to give Kleenex that extra bit of profit? Seems worth it to me.

Just a publicity flash generated by the minions who would be better suited in a job at a washing machine or cattle feed company rather than an automobile company.

AWspicious' observations mirror my thoughts (good post, AWs), only he has done so in a much more mature way than I am capable of. Regards..Jack

Rubbish, if a female-oriented car generates sales why SHOULDN'T they make one?!

To somehow imply that GPS, parking distance control, electronic keys and centralised warning systems shouldn't be installed because it proves how idiotic drivers are becoming, is stupid.

You could use the same logic to say that people who drive cars with automatic transmission aren't real drivers. Or people who choose metalic paint are more concerned with the looks than the 'driving'.

I don't see how this car specifically caters to women, I think the features could benefit guys also.

I think the VW Bug is a girl car-it has a flower holder.

Volvo already makes women's cars. Those world famous Volvo station wagons.

Now, the Toyota Echo, there's a girlie car.

You could use the same logic to say that people who drive cars with automatic transmission aren't real drivers. Or people who choose metalic paint are more concerned with the looks than the 'driving'.

I would say that people who don't know how to drive a stick aren't real drivers. You should at least have the skill, so you can drive any car on the road. Otherwise, you can't. And of course, your car is supposed to make you look good. Ergo, the metallic candy apple red paint.

Some of those features are not necessary. I do however, like the parking sensor and the "know you" key system. Those are features that would benefit males as well. Volvo should install some of these features in all their cars. That would benefit everyone.

"Rubbish, if a female-oriented car generates sales why SHOULDN'T they make one?!'

Because, in the end, it's not the female-oriented design of the car that's going to save her (or anyone else's) bacon should things stray from the norm...

"To somehow imply that GPS, parking distance control, electronic keys and centralised warning systems shouldn't be installed because it proves how idiotic drivers are becoming, is stupid."

...And to arm drivers with a car full of irrelevant high-tech gadgets which serves no purpose for the skill of driving but only adds to the high costs of purchasing, instead of focusing on how to aid in producing better, more competent drivers makes a whole lot of sense.

"You could use the same logic to say that people who drive cars with automatic transmission aren't real drivers. Or people who choose metalic paint are more concerned with the looks than the 'driving'."

I believe this one has already been answered.

EGGD, I agree 100% with you ~~ that is one ugly car!

I am a woman and would rather drive an older style car with some class ~~ one that has some "balls" so that when you step on it, it goes!
