The Caprice Classic is the best Cheverolet ever made and one of the best build cars in the world. Unless the previous owner totally neglected it, these cars will last forever. These cars were the best bang for the buck when they were new. That's why they were popular with police and taxis. The Cadillac version (Fleetwood Brougham) were popular among those that liked a real American luxury sedan.I've never heard of these cars to have transmission problems. Transmissions are pretty cheap for these cars. G.M. made these cars forever and shared parts with other Pontiacs, Oldsmobiles, Buicks and Cadillacs. The only possible transmission problems would be with the el-cheapo V6 options. Only get a Caprice Classic that has the V8 350 or 305 engines. Thats what most of them have anyway.

My dad had a beige 79.

A previous owner had installed a couple of speaker boxes on the rear wind deck. So what my dad used to do was put a box of Kleenex on the dash, right in the center.

Just exactly where if you look inside an unmarked cop car they put the light boxes.

It was amazing...he could drive right at the speed limit and nobody would pass him.
