Old People And Driving

Tue May 11, 2004 7:01 am

Here's a good example why old people should be checked regularly for their ability to drive safely:

Holy hell! I heard somewhere (cant remember where) that here in sunny England, people over 60 are due to get another driving test. But I am not sure whether that is just a rumour or not.

Bloody hell... I got stuck behind one coming out of work tonight, stalled on two consecutive speed humps! Also one on sunday, driving down an A road (and keep in mind this is a ROMAN ROAD, extremely wide and straight) and still hit the curb, it was really firghtening.

I think that was pretty good...I mean, she hit him on the first try didn't she? Seriously, older folks have a bad record, probably magnified by the fact that there are ever-increasing numbers of senior drivers. I believe that even with this increase in numbers, teens' records are worse as a base statistic though. Regards...Jack

Thing is... since the old typically hold the largest per capita voting percentage--- what politician would dare draft any such legislation?  Sad

In the second picture it doesn't even look like she has her brake lights on...

How about those 1000s of idiotic wannabe-Schumachers in the 18-25 age bracket, who manage to wreck their cars at trees, bridges, lamp posts, other cars, trucks etc. and not only kill themselves, but also their friends or family members in their cars and innocent people in other cars or on the street?

Ever seen insurance statistics and -rates? Seems like the real danger stems from younger drivers, not the older ones.

Agree with you on that one TriStar500,
The young people are responsible for the disgusting high auto insurance prices, because many of them drive like shit. I know I am in this age group. But I drive carefully. I drive too fast some times too. And I believe many of us do the same thing too.
But many young drivers just don't use their brains while they are driving.

What I find slightly amusing is the look on the old woman's face in both pictures - in the first she's looking straight at the guy, and in the second looking ahead.

But in both pictures she doesn't have the slightest look of concern in her face.  Smile/happy/getting dizzy

Regards,
Gordon.

Somebody who doesn't want Florida's electoral votes perhaps.

They look very real to me. Unfortunetely, you really have to see an accident like this to understand. Its not nice, people can survive but it looks extremely painful when you see someone get hit by a car. Look at the face of the passenger in the VW on the left...

EGGD,

I know. I saw their faces as well. But I have seen several filmclips on the internet where people are walking out infront of a car and get hit. And that is trickshot. You see the dummy fly high in the sky.
That's why I' so curious if this one is real.

Yeah I know, I was just pointing out the face because its quite shocking in a way.... Just imagine the shock someone must be feeling at that point.

I agree with you. If it's real that must be really shocking. I would be very shocked If i was sitting in that VW as well. Because it really doesn't seem like the Old lady has noticed anything at all.

It's real. It was taken by a camera that photographs cars that run over red lights. The man walked away with only minor injuries, the driver was caught by the police 10 minutes later and claimed that she didn't notice anything.
