...and What About Holland

...in addition to the 'do you like Germany' post:

What's your opinion about Holland?

Hmm..why only Holland? Why not the Netherlands?

No no, just joking...I love Amsterdam in general and Schiphol specifically, on holidays or Saturday mornings I love to make a short trip to Venlo or Nimwegen or Arnhem.

I find most Dutch people rather nice and not anti-German at all, good neighbourship I'd call it...only when it comes to football, I hate you guts!!!!  Big grin Big grin

Fortunately I can still tell people I'm English (man, that hurts inside though) or Swiss or whatever, I won't give you the chance to make fun of our awful national team  Big grin
It didn't keep me from asking Dutch people where you were in 2002 Big grin

No seriously, Amsterdam is one of my 5 most favorite cities in the world (the others being London, Hongkong, New York and of course my hometown Berlin), and just lately we hired a Dutch guy to work on my team, and a good choice it was!

I have been living in the Netherlands for a year now. And I Must say that the dutch people must be the friendliest people in Europe. At the beginning when I hardly knew any dutch, it wasnt a problem for me if I went to the supermarket or something like that. People were always very helpful.
Holland is just a great place I think!

Of course there are some not so very good things, like those "lullos" at the University for example..

Dutch people lack passion. Passion for life. I hate that! It is like people dont seem to care about anything here. Only thing we can get passionate about is football and speedskating.

Thats it.

But besides that, I think that the Netherlands are great, I love the country side (although it could do with some more hills), I love the cities, especially Amsterdam.

The countryside is one of the things I find a bit boriung about my new home country. It all looks the same. So flat, no big forests or lakes. Sometimes I miss Sweden when it ocmes to that wildlife & outdoors thing.

Gotta know where to look for it, thats true. But there is some amazing wildlife and lakes are everywhere  Smile But nothing is remote here, thats true. You can not walk around for more than 30 mins without seeing someone else.

Yeah surprisingly enough, where polution is probably not very low, you see most birds and rabbits... Schiphol is stuffed with those creatures...

And I take it that lullos are the blabla kind of people, the ones that talk about their cars and their status and think that they are number one. The kind that wears Ralph Lauren and Gant. We dont call them lullos up north, so I might be wrong  Big grin

Oh, come on now - the Germans dig those holes to keep the water from the channel or the North Sea from overflooding Holland! They're actually doing you guys a favor!!! Big grin

Back to the question - I like Holland, lot's of nice people there... well... that's actually all I can say, because I haven't really spent all that much time there yet: some hours in Schipol, half a day in Amsterdam, 2 days in Rotterdam on a seminar, but that's about it...

Still - I like Holland.
Smile - it confuses people!

I was driving in South Holland a couple of weeks ago. ON the highway that goes out to Vlissigen and the sea. Think I overtook 20 german caravans in 30 mins or so. Cna imagine how it will be when summer strikes.

1. That's the Poles, we do not like your cheap old-fashioned bikes  Big grin

2. We stopped digging holes in your beaches ca. 60 years ago, you weren't even born then!  Big grin  Big grin

3. Though with that smell of Pommes and Frikandel drifting all over the beaches, we might start again...  Big grin  Big grin  Big grin

4. To accuse Germans to clog up your frigging Highways...now that's a cheap shot..FLOOD HOLLAND  Big grin  Big grin  Big grin  Big grin

Belgium? Dont even start about Belgium.  Big grin Belgian cities are grey, the people cant drive, they are plain stupid in traffic. We should just build a fence around it and one big bridge across.

Phew  Big grin all stereotypes are out!
