What's The Dress Code In Your Company?

Wed May 19, 2004 3:37 pm

In my former company, it was supposed to be "business casual".
In reality, nearly everyone was in jeans and T-shirts, and the worst dressed person was the PHC.E.O. himself.
Over in my new one, it's supposed to be full business dress...can't see a tie anywhere (no jeans though).
What's the policy at your workplace ?

in NYC, casual fridays menas kahkis and a buttoned-down shirt with no tie. Other days I was required to wear a suit w/ jacket.

I worked for the corporate office of a bank, too, but sinc ethey dont deal with customers face to face, they only required pants like slacks ro khakis and a shirt with no tie any day of the week. In fact, I got in trouble once for wearing a tie.

In my company we have to wear a uniform. And when we are flying nonrev we don't have a strict dress code. We can wear jeans and a normal t-shirt if we want as long as the clothings are nice and clean.

We can basically come to work in whatever fashion we want - there are no formal dress codes. I usually refrain from wearing shorts to work, but that is about the only restriction I put myself under.

If we are on business trips or a customer visits our office, the "regular" biz dress code applies (suits and tie etc.).

In my current company : business casual as well.

Officially : trousers (jeans allowed) shirt or polo shirt

OIn reality, esp now that the heat wave has hit us back, a lot of cow-workers arrive in shorts and our CEO even has short and flip flops (with sock, of course !!)

My boss (who is more pregnant than KROC) insists in wearing a M sized TSirt...

Here we dont really have a dress code at all. No body cares if you wear jeans and a white T-Shirt that is 10 sizes to big. The only time anybody dresses up in a suit is when they have meetings, excetera...excetera.

Just yesterday the CIO came in wearing a damn hawaii shirt and shorts, even though he attended a conference!  Nuts

In our work, there is no real dress code, but everyone seems to wear the company white shirt with logo with dark slacks. Only on Fridays or on hot days during summer.

I would think most people don't mind wearing some sort of uniform as it cuts down on any decisions you have to make early in the morning.

Company uniform ironed with a crease splitting the shoulder patch, pressed pants, black boots polished with black socks. No long hair, and no facial hair below the top lip. Name tag above right breast pocket.

We used to have shortsleeve polo shirts to be worn on coordinated days in the summer, but the company took those out of the dress code in order to save money by not buying new ones for new hires. I got to wear mine a whole two times last year.

hmm, good questions. i work for a top corporate law firm and out new offices are shiny, new, fantastic, and impressive.

yet here i am sitting in my ratty jeans, and a wrinkled polo that i got off the floor of my bedroom this morning--untucked.

sometimes my secretary wears those velour track suits, which is taking it a bit far i believe.

but if a client meeting is happening, i'm here in a suit. i actually like wearing suits...i think because i had to for grade school.

We have company uniforms, e.g. dark blue (akmost black) pants with cargo pockets and reflective stripes around the ankles, red button down shirt or polo shirt, dark blue jacket with company logo on the left pocket, signal yellow warning vest with company logo on the back, dark blue sweater for winter, yellow rain coat with company logo, parka with company logo and black safety boots. Baseball style cap. The reflective stripes and vest are mandatory for ramp work, esp. at night.

Before, when we still had another owner, I would dress the way British and Irish line mechanics often dress: Black or dark blue trousers with a crease, black safety boots, white short sleeved button down pilot´s style shirt, black or dark blue necktie, black short blousson style jacket or RAF style pullover. If the work got dirty I would put a coverall over everything. I noticed pilots listen more to what you tell them if you don´t look like a grease monkey.

Being a government drone, conformity is stressed. Monday through Thursday, we're expected to wear (at minimum) shirt, tie, and trousers or dress pants. We do have "casual Fridays" (IE lose the tie or replace the shirt and tie with a polo), but jeans are strictly forbidden attire except when our Administrative Officer permits it (office clean-up days being when they're permitted).

We have Casual Day on Friday, we can wear anything except shorts... the rest of the week is business casual. So collared shirts and business pants and shoes. We're not supposed to wear polo shirts, but we do. Well, I don't, others do...!!

I can wear pretty much whatever I want, within reason. Definately a nice part of working at a University.

During the school year it means wearing twill pants, brown or black shoes, sweater, button up long sleaved shirt or polo. Fridays generally switched to jeans and sneakers, but still polo, sweater, button up shirt. Now that is it the summer time pretty much anything goes. Wore nice khakis and a polo Tuesday, jeans and a polo today. If it gets oppresively hot then I might wear shorts. If I have a meeting with important people then I dress it up.

At United Airlines we have to wear a company uniform. You are supposed to wear blue pants and a company shirt - there are several styles. I wear this polo, and you can also select a button-down shirt. Or you can wear a blue jumpsuit, which is nice during winters. Also, during witner you can wear a parka and some warm pants. There's a bright-yellow set of rain gear that you wear when it's wet.

When we non-rev, we gotta wear nice pants, nice shoes and a nice shirt. No jeans allowed in first class.

Business casual, which in practice means just about anything from jeans on up.

Depends on where you're working. In the warehouses, anything (within reason)goes, even for managers. In the corporate offices, Friday is casual day, which does not include jeans or non-collared shirts--everyone basically wears khakis and polo shirts. Otherwise, Monday through Thursday, it depends on what building you're in. In the headquarters building a tie is required, in the satillite office you don't have to wear a tie, but you still have to wear a dress shirt. Complicated, yes. Sucks, yes.

Uniform for me. It's a blue shirt with red inner sleeves and inner collar. It also has the company's logo just under the pocket on the front of the shirt and on the back of the shirt (it is quite a small logo). I like it, I think it's very modern.

My old uniform was a white shirt and a cabin crew type tie (wasn't nice). It was uncomfortable to wear.

It's very strict and was developed by a consultant years ago...and updated yearly.
Two strange things:
--We actually have a 'facial hair' policy--(the less hair, the better)
--You can't wear brown suits (not that you'd want to, anyway...).

The manual comes complete with "do's" and "dont's"---all in all, fairly silly. There is actually a person in charge of this nonsense--whom we refer to as the "Vice President of Catering..."

T-shirt, shorts, flip flops most of the week. In the winter, lose the flip flops, shorts, and T-shirt, go with jeans and a sweater. Of course there is no one in my office other then the dog, and he spends a lot of time out on the porch..

It's nice to be 43, retired, and doing consulting work.  Big grin
