Remembering Bloom County

Mon May 24, 2004 1:35 am

I just saw cartoonist Berke Breathed's latest strip, "Opus," for the first time. It's damn good to see his unique style and this classic character back in the funny pages.

It got me thinking about Bloom County, my all-time favorite strip. The political lampoons, the Banana Jr. computer, Binkley's closet of anxieties, and the music of Deathtongue... Anybody else remember the strip?

Ah, but who remembers "Rabies Vacc"?

(Hint: He predated Opus).

Bloom County was brilliant. I have all the collections somewhere in the basement. Should drag them out again...

I loved Bllom County, especially Opus, but todays equivalant is The Boondocks by Aaron McGruder. The best comic strip since Bloom County.
