Any Golfers Here?

Wed May 26, 2004 2:35 am

Just wondering who likes to play golf here on A.net? I've been playing for about 4 years now, and I love it. I usually shoot in the low to mid 80's. Who else likes to play golf?

I used to play quite a bit but then decided it's mainly a game for retired people (well, in the UK it is) who were twice my age so I gave up. Another reason for me stopping was that I got achieved the holy grail in golf last year (a hole in one) so I feel that every shot I now take is going to be second rate!

PS Now that I'm about to move to Phoenix, the home of about a thousand courses, this may all change!

I've been playing for 4 years now and I love it. This is my last year of Junior membership prices, so after this year I have to pay thousands instead of hundreds. I usually shoot in the low-mid 80's, with the occational 78,79. I've never taken lessons and I bought a brand new set of Ben Hogans (3-LW) last year, best clubs I've ever hit. Its a fun game if you have patience.

Golf? Whats a matter USairwys757, couldn't get that triple lutz down in figure skates so you tried golf instead? You must look funny wearing sequins on your golf shirt though.

Yeah, I golf on occaision. I really suck at it, too. I can never seem to get much lower than a 150. And that club is just no substitute for AA61hvy.

I used to enjoy playing golf at Augusta National, until they started allowing blacks in.

Wow. If you were trying not to be funny you definitely suceeded. Here, take a lesson, learn something--it should go something like this:

In golf, just like in my life, I just try to get it in any hole I possibly can.

Shouldn't it go more like this:

My dad, cousin, and uncle play golf. I went with them to the driving range a few time and tried to hit some balls with them, but I'm terrible at it. I am very good at golf on the computer though.  Laugh out loud

I golf ~~ that is if you can call it that! But yes, I do on occasion golf. I live within walking distance of a nice golf course. I think I have more fun yelling "4" than actually golfing!

I try to play once a week, but my schedule the last few weeks has been hetic. There is a great course here in Nashville that offers 36 holes at a pretty fair price. The LPGA used to play on the 'old' course, so as you would guess its pretty nice..!! I've grown to like the 'new' course and thick if offers different challanges.

I have pretty much been in a golf environment since I was born. My grandfather started playing golf the same week that my mother was born (50 years ago, his handicap today is 6 at the age of 81). Then my uncle became a PGA pro when he was 19 and played a few tournaments. He then realized that the competition was enourmous so he started working for the PGA of Sweden as a tournament official. Today he is the Tournament Director for the PGA of Sweden. He was also the boyfriend of Annika Sörenstam for many years before she wanted to move to the US, but then they broke up because he didnt want to move to the US (a BIG mistake now I think!).

I got my first golf club when I was baptized, a shortened PING 7 iron. I was a little to young to use then tough. I started playing frequently when I was about 6 years old. Then I followed my parents around on the golf course every weekend.
Today I have a official handicap of 13, but I have been told that I could be a lot better if I just played more; one time every two weeks isnt enough. A big advantage for me is my hitting distance. I normally drive a ball around 280 yards if I dont use so much power, then the ball goes where I want it. I can however hit a lot further. Last summer I smashed a car window on the far side of the driving range, even though it was 280 meters away. I have also done 31 eagles and I was very close to a double eagle once. All par 5s under 530 meters are reachable for me in two, as long as I get a solid hit on both shots.

My equiptment is:
Taylor Made LCG irons
Taylor Made R320 Driver
Callaway Steelhead 3+ wood
Callaway Steelhead 5 wood
Cleaveland 60 deg wedge
Oddessy white hot putter.

I play golf, in fact i have played everyday since friday. I have been playing since i was bout 6 when i started in Mauritius. When i was about 11 i basically gave up, until about a month ago, now i play all the time.

My local course of which i am currently a member is called Foxbridge. Its little more than 2 minutes drive from my house. However it is just a nine hole course, but they put 2 holes on each green, on the first 9 you play to the yellow pin and on the second round you play to the reds. As an 18 hole course it is about 5800yrds long.

I used to be a member at a place called Wildwood but because it was quite far away (bout 20min drive) and it was so busy you usually had to pre-book, and we weren't going there very often, I cancelled my membership.

I can also play on the 9 hole par 3 course at my school, although i have yet to do so, and i am thinking about getting membership to "Cranleigh Golf and Leisure" because then i can play with my friend who is a member there, and we can also play tennis.

Because of my absense from the game i haven't really picked up an official handicap, but i was playing off 27 when i stopped 2 years ago, when i was 11! So not bad going i dont think. So i play off 27 now, but I can usually shoot between 88-92 on 18holes, which isn't bad for a 13yr old  Big grin (Although if it wasn't for my putting, i'd play a lot better  Big grin).

I do play often though. On a school week i'd probably play 9/18 holes on saturday and sunday and wednesday, and usually on one other day too.

Oh yeah, I love golf. I usually only get to play about once a month though. I'm just good enough to keep from embarassing myself, and I manage to get a birdie every now and then as well. I've got a set of Cleveland TA5 irons, and I use a Callaway Steelhead 12 degree fairway wood as a driver. I also use a Ping i3 2-iron and a Ping i3 7 wood.

One thing, golf became a lot more fun once I stopped keeping score. (Yeah, I don't keep score, so I really have no idea what my average score is. I honestly don't care about what I shoot or what my handicap index is.)

I play golf (going out this afternoon as a matter of fact). Sometimes I hit really good, sometimes the divot goes farther than the ball. But the important thing is, I enjoy it no matter how good or bad I play.
