Massages

Fri May 28, 2004 7:23 am

Wondering what your experiences have been when you get massages? Do you go to a massage center or spa, or to a private massuer that works from their home? After going for massages every four to five months for the last few years, I realize that massages are very private - your very vulnerable laying there naked, getting rubbed down. Curious about other experiences.

Does your massuer wrap up the massage with a "happy ending?"

Luckily, the few private massuers I've been to, do.

I've gotten three. 1 here in Dallas at my country club, 1 in Mumbai at the hotel, and one in Costa Rica at a spa. I love them, especially since I work out, it feels nice on my muscles when they are tense. I plan on getting one in the near future again.

Had a massage in Thailand, a full body massage, although when I told my mates, they automatically assumed it was a "20 pound all-in" that (I hear) you can get in my home town.

Was the only massage I have ever had. Interesting experience. Painful at times, especially when you hear your joints crack. Was quite enjoyable I suppose, except when she got to my thighs and started going higher. And higher. Jeez, if I would have so much as coughed, it would have been an internal. At that point, I felt rather uncomfortable.

Immediately after, felt more in pain than relaxed. However, the next day, felt brilliant.

My family had the lucky experience of knowing a massage therapist in training. She had to give 3 a week to "gain experience" so we reluctantly volunteered our time. It was great.

cant do em. waaay too ticklish.

not normal ones anyhow. i can tolerate the neck/shoulder/arm massages that accompany my facials. plus i can do hot stone massages, and oooh boy, those are heaven.

there are only a few spas that do the stone massages, and some hotels. i've only had three in the past year as they can tend to be quite pricey.

My girlfriend is a registered nurse. She learned how to do medical massage (the real thing, no sex involved) during her training in the Philippines. Once I had the flu and she massaged me head to toe, it cracked my bones, but I felt wonderfully relaxed afterwards.

Gotten one only in my life...and it was...aMaZiNg...wOw

Went with a group of students from my school to China a couple years ago, and in the awesome city of Guilin, one evening we decided to get some massages. WOW!!!...felt seriously amazing...didn't want to leave after they finished, but hey 10 bucks for a massage is not bad. Only time I've ever had a massage = SO great. If you haven't gotten a massage, it is AMAZING!!! although one kid on the trip said it "hurt"...so I dunno, guess it depends on personal preference of whether you like your muscles being massaged or not!!!  Smile

I have gotten to the point where I try to get a massage in every city I travel to (when I'm on the road). When I was flying daily, this became extra-important as keeping ones' health, especially when you're on the road for months at a time, is paramount.

I do not get massages for the "happy ending" rather, I get them for theraputic reasons (a bad shoulder with subsequent nerve damage in one arm and a degenerative cervical vertebrae).

Overall, I've found LMT's to be like every other profession - there are some who are good, some who are mediocre and some who are excellent. Best advice is to ask around first (if possible) to try and find an LMT who fits into the last category.
