Female A.netters?

Sat May 29, 2004 7:54 am

Hi!!!

I was just wondering what's the percentage of female A.Netters?

As we all know, aviation has always been stereotyped as a "boys" thing, but I am curious to know whether also some girls like aviation the same way we do.
Especially now that we are living times when we are supposed to break with those traditional clichés.

Is aviation still a "men's thing"?

...and then comes the Non-Aviation forums.

You'd be amazed at how for we have to go to break those traditional clichés.

There are a few ladies here at Airliners.net.
They've all asked that I not give out there phone numbers.  Laugh out loud

You can tell who the females are because they're the ones with 10 posts and a 62 respect rating because all the pathetic chumps think they're getting some.

OK you guys!!! I am one of the "ladies" on a.net who loves everything to do with aviation! I love learning about aircraft and what makes them tick. I am working on getting my private and believe me I've learned a lot in the tech forum! I also love to hang out at the airport as a spotter!! So I guess you are wrong when you say that aviation is a "Guy Thing"..... I will say that it has taken woman longer to get involved in aviation for the simple reason that it was always looked at as a guy thing!  Big thumbs up

Wellhung, as far as respect ratings..... I disagree with you. I personally could care less about my respect rating. And as far as the number of posts ~~ I look at quality not quantity.

Superfly, I agree with you ~~ "No man has ever got laid by adding a female to their respected users list". Oh, and I'm glad your a happy boy!!!  Wink/being sarcastic

Yes I'm a female A-netter and i have to admit the respected rating doesn't mean anything to me ( ok its a good feeling when you get a rating ). I'm here because I have one thing in common with most, male or female, I LOVE AVIATION.  Big thumbs up
Its no longer ' a guy thing' anymore. More and more females are flying aircraft wether it be civil aviation or military and all those associated with the industry these days.
I've learned alot in here and still learning, not forgetting the the laughs you can have. Well said Vaporlock with your comments
I suspect there are alot more girls out there lurking in the wings. Don't be afraid to speak up. If some guys don't like us it's hard luck on them.

Thanks for the post Wolkenridder

PS I recently joined the East Midlands Aviation Group and to their records I appear to be the first female enthusiast they have. I got a very warm welcome from them  Wink/being sarcastic

Loves airplanes and a girl. That's me!  Big grin

I have had a love affair with aviation since the first time I looked up into the sky. Mom swears "apwane" (airplane) was one of first words. I almost got named Delta, Valkyrie or Cessna. Yes folks, I said Cessna.
As a child I first used an old hand held telescope to airplane watch from my side walk. Try watching planes thru a telescope, a small one, some day. Trust me, it aint easy folks!
Later I got my first pair of binoculars and that made things a lot easier on me. I soon began recording movements. Sun up to sun down there was kid sitting on the side walk with her binoculars writing things down. Piedmont 727 at 8:23am. Eastern 757 12:13pm. Pan-Am L-1011 7:28pm.
Wardair Canada 747 7:43pm. Yup, that was me.
They made fun of me in school too. Airplane geek extraordinare!
I always knew I would end up working in aviation. My dream was to be a Piedmont flight attendant. Then US Airways spoiled that dream one tragic day  Sad (I still hold that grudge against them)  Big thumbs up
I ended up at Southwest Airlines. Probably one of the smartest moves I ever made.
So, here I am, 31 years old and a female STILL in love with aviation!!!

Cheers,
SWA TPA

So here's another girl, I'm raising my hand. Sorry, I'm no stewardess, but hope to be graduate aviation engineer in two years. Aviation has become my life and I think that the female aviation enthusiasts are no different from the male ones.

I personally have a problem about A.netters who are female, infact I applaud them for "being themselves", I know aviation isnt a cool subject to talk about with your mates, I must think its even worse for a female to strike up a conversation to her friends about C-17's and B734's.
I remember the first time I flew on a aircraft flown by a female pilot, infact I have to say it was the best flight ive ever been on (so far), and im not just saying that.
I think women have it tougth these days, made even worse by us guys, If I ever saw a female spotter im sure id strike up a conversation, like I do with the guys, I wouldnt want to "score" or anything like that, id just like to say hi.
If she likes me thats a bonus, if not then theres always another time.
I guess we need more female's to be intrested to keep the "tradition" of aviation, and to not loose the inspiration.
I mean we have females working in Boeing factories, production, design, stewardesses, and so on, then why not spotters.
I say the more the better...

Another girl checking in here! I don't work in aviation but have loved airplanes since I was small. Two of my clients have been aviation related: one airline (I guess I can say who now, since my company no longer exists - Delta) and one avionics manufacturer. These were my two biggest clients and it was pure coincidence that they were assigned to me!

I've learned a lot from a.net and hope to keep learning and spotting.  Smile/happy/getting dizzy
