Dubya And The Umbrella: And The Umbrella Won!

Wed Jun 02, 2004 1:21 pm

Did anyone see the news clip of Bush walking to board Air Force One today? It was a bit windy and his umbrella flip inside out and for the duration of the walk he was fumbling with it to get it open... everyone on the planet knows when and umbrella is inverted by strong winds.. you turn 'the cupped' end of umbrella towards the wind and it will be blown back to it's designed shape! Bush gave up at the stairs of AF1 and just gave it to an aid. Finally the media is starting to show what we've known all along.. now if we could only get clips of the bicycle accident!

Depending on where he was, it might be legal, but not really smart, of course he might just be sitting on the kick stand for the photo.

Laura must have read the illustrated version to him the night before.

Can you imagine if these pictures made it to the Iraqi public? As they will.

(Spoke to a colleague in the UAE who said that the Arab media and public was in splits over them)

What friggin luck is that? The person next to him was fine and he had to have the umbrella that went postal, I'll bet it was rigged to make him look all retarded.

>> " If there is any doubt about what an idiot he is... " <<

Oh come on, DC10guy, everyone has been in that situation, how is he an idiot when it was the wind's fault! Although, if I were him, I would not be caught walking with an inverted umbrella. That's says 'hit me' all over it. He should have been able to get help from the SS, where the hell were they?

DC10 is just upset because GW actually gets the umbrella opened.... DC10 still has some issues with those things, and probably is mad because rain gets his hair wet? Sounds likely..  Big grin

Anyone can make thenselves look like a fool. You did by calling his helicopter "Air Force One." Anyone who has paid the slightest bit of attention to the Presidency for the last thirty years knows the helicopter is Marine One when he is aboard.

Difference is, he matters and so these things get caught on video and shown to the TV audience. You don't matter and so no one calls you on your blunders.

BTW, there are lots of us who never have to carry an umbrella and just might not have the procedures down. So ask yourself, if this was someone you admited, would you have made such a fuss about it?

OK...those pics are pretty funny..even the prez thinks so. You will notice he is offering up the umbrella for photos with something of a sheepish look.

I wonder how many pictures there are of us having dumblooking htings happen to us? Post some.

I am happy that we are deciding who to vote for based on how well they operate a $10 umbrella. Sheesh people we could talk about the issues.

You guys are really, really getting desperate. If you actually saw the video, you would see that he was playing around and laughing. It's good when the guy in the White House can have a laugh. The jousting thing he did intentionally. It really says something about what even you guys think about your election chances in November if your trying to turn something the frickin' wind did into something anti-Bush. Issues. They decide elections. I love how to left criticizes us for making fun of the stupid things Lord Almighty Kerry does and claims that "all we can do is hate Kerry" when your trying to turn umbrella handling into a major campaign issue.

That's the kind of logic that makes you look like an idiot.

I'm a college grad, and a fairly high paid computer consultant and even I have trouble with umbrellas in the wind. But it's fairly clear from the video, and after the canopy inverted. He's just having a little fun with it since there is not much he can do with it like that.

Did I SlamClick? Now you just made a bigger fool out of yourself not knowing what you're talking about. You based your comments on the pics posted here.. now look at them again... he's walking away from Marine One -- which took to board Air Force One at Andrews.. Marine One certainly isn't on the South Lawn.. now is it? So like start of the thread says.. I saw the news clip.. it's apparent you didn't!

Commendable comeback, BN747...Kudos! Of course, in the interest of one-upsmanship in a final debate score-point system, you would have scored even higher had your statement suggested "disembarking from Marine One", or "after exiting Marine One" rather than "walking to board Air Force One".

Subliminal suggestion is great by inference. Then again, I guess folks didn't read your discalimer. Sure started something, eh?

Now, I think I'll start a thread without disclaimers when I get up tomorrow. It may go something like... "Ted Kennedy And The Bottle: And The Bottle Won!", or, errrr...the list could be endless on points any side of the political spectrum.
Oh well, G'nite. Regards...Jack

Thanks for the correction Cpt. Jack! here's a tip for your thread.. and actually how I should have titled mine..

Bush vs The Umbrella... feel free to borrow 'Ted Kennedy vs The Bottle'

...and I'll follow up with 'Bush vs The Bottle: The Sequel', 'Bush vs The White Lines: The Trilogy'... only question is... where do I place the pretzels, the bike fall and the Segway Tumble???

That umbrella is sort of like the Iraq war. It blew up on him.

He tried to use the war to shield himself and deflect criticism about the economy and domestic issues, and now all it does is collect and concentrate.

Whom amongst us has not had that happen to them? If you say no, you probably don't use an umbrella and are subsequently all wet!

Great photos! And if you watched the whole news footage you would clearly see the President had a great laugh as well.

All of us that has had that happen share in his humor.

When you go this low to make fun of the President, I just wonder are you "running scared" over the possible outcome of November 2004? (A Bush victory).
