GI Gets His Dog Tags Back, After 34 Years

Wed Jun 02, 2004 2:32 pm

Hey guys, interesting story for Memorial Day.

Rod Sneed was a GI in Vietnam. 34 years ago his helicopter got shot down and he spent 7 days in the Jungle avoiding VC. In the course of those 7 days his dog tags where lost.

Then just recently he got a call from Robert McMahon in New Hampshire. Turns out that McMahon had taken a trip to Vietnam and had purchased Sneed's tag in a flea market there and wanted to know if Sneed wanted them back.

Sneed is now using the tag as a teaching tool at the state school he is the commmandant of.

Wow, That is amazing. It was very nice of Mr. McMahon to send the dog tags to Rod Sneed.

Be careful, bootleg dog tags are a huge cottage industry in Vietnam. I met a Misty FAC who went back with 5 of his comrades and they could have bought their own dog tags!! Authentic, of course!!
