Fox News Vs. Sky

Thu Jun 03, 2004 2:59 am

After reading this article about Fox's growth in cable news with a right slant, sorry Fair and Balanced, I'm curious if SKY, also controlled by Murdoch, provides similar news formats, principally news analytics, and also with a conservative overture?

This is true question, not a flame war. I have no bias towards any of the new networks, but I do think Fox's claim of Fair and Balanced is, at times, slanted to the right.

Fair?

Perhaps... there's an apparent right-slant.

Balanced?

Not enough... there's such an incredible overwhelmingly-left slant in general televised media that Fox can barely counter it.

I'd say if you best want a Fair&Balanced overall view: consider multiple sources.

Moderate such as MSNBC, skewed such as Fox & CNN. Would avoid incalculably left-skewed organizations a la NPR however.

What makes NPR so left?  Confused

I listen to NPR all the time and I never hear any bias in one way or the other. It's just news.

Sky News is pretty balanced.

Don't forget there's a legal requirement to avoid bias in broadcast news in the UK.

Superfly,

I think he is just complaining because the news has a natural left-slant  Laugh out loud

I listent to NPR too, and haven't heard anything but left wing slant.

My listening to it isn't by choice either.

The local stations transmitter is about 1/4-1/2 mile from my mom's house, so there is enough RF in the ground wave that it comes over the phone lines every time I call home  Pissed

So I guess if news isn't presented in some sort of sensationalism and entertainment like Fox, then it must be left-wing huh?

Again, I dont know why this concept is so difficult for you to grasp...

...but [and particularly in the case of NPR] chief among factors which make them grotesquely liberal-skewed is not how they present information, but what information they choose to present/omit and why they choose to present it.

E.g., 20minutes on Nick Berg's cold-blooded murder, versus 20days on Abu Ghraib's ridiculous antics
