Motivational Songs

Mon Jun 07, 2004 1:07 pm

What songs/soundtracks do you use to really motivate yourselves, during a workout, before a big race, early in the morning on the way to work, at the gym?

My top 5:

5) Anything on the Braveheart soundtrack
4) Survivor - Eye of the Tiger
3) The Gods and Generals Soundtrack
2) O Fortuna
1) Amazing Grace - Bagpipe Version
The tower? Rapunzel!!!!!!

It's hard for me to pick a few definite songs that motivate me. Many different songs have many different meanings to me, so I usually try to listen to a song with the meaning that I am looking for. In general though, these are some of the songs that motivate me...

More Mellow:

Go The Distance -- Michael Bolton
Fire And Rain -- James Taylor
I Hope You Dance -- Lee Ann Womack
If We Hold On Together -- Diana Ross
Somewhere Out There -- James Ingram/Linda Ronstadt
Sailing -- Christopher Cross

More Fun:

Don't Stop -- Fleetwood Mac
Miami 2017 -- Billy Joel
Thriller -- Michael Jackson
Numb -- Linkin Park
Carry On Wayward Son -- Kansas
Losing My Religion -- R.E.M.

Oh gosh... I really don't know when you mean 'motivational.' The others have a funky list. I'm basing my list on your Braveheart, which I'm adding to my list.

Olympic season is almost starting. John Williams's "Summon the Heroes" and "Olympic Fanfare & Theme." Great composer.

"Hoe Down," "Appalachian Spring," and "Rodeo" by Aaron Copland. Great American Classical.

"Imitation of Life" by R.E.M., "`Ulalena" by Arra, "Hero" by E. Iglesias (lol), "Take the Money and Run" by Steve Miller Band, "Kashmir" by Led Zepplin, etc...

Gosh... Too much to mention. Well I guess. Hey! I almost wanted to major in Music.

Sometimes I forget what abysmal musical taste A.net members have. It's like office worker music in here.

10 songs that get me fired up:

"Raise Your Voice" by Bad Religion
"Waiting Room" by Fugazi
"Stigmata" by Ministry
"I Will Refuse" by Pailhead
"Naive" by KMFDM
"Deep Karma Canyon" by Bob Mould
"Once in a Lifetime" by Talking Heads
"In Liverpool" by Suzanne Vega
"Headhunter" by Front 242
"Life" by King Missile
"Sympathy is something that shouldn't be bestowed on the Yankees. Apparently it angers them." - Bob Feller

"Proud" Heather Small / M People Can't remember which
Tina Turner - "Simply the Best" - My former employers song. Makes me feel nauseous just thinking about it.

Ok here we go:

"Tonight Tonight" Smashing Pumpkins
"Breaking the Habit" Linkin Park
"Walk On" U2 (surprised nobody has mentioned it yet)
"Love Song" The Cure (covered by 311)
"Cast No Shadow" Oasis
"Dare you to Move" Switchfoot
"We gotta get out of this place" The Animals

I'm sure there are many others, I just can't remember them all right now.

And all at once the crowd begins to sing: Sometimes the hardest thing and the right thing are the same

""Proud" Heather Small / M People Can't remember which"

It's indeed a Heather Small song. Good song, too.

It's an entirely different kind of flying; all together.
