Is that this thursday already? Oh dear.... I haven't got a clue what all the parties want. Quite frankly, I do not even know what parties are in the running except for the usual national parties.

Dutch/Danish, the difference?  Laugh out loud

Anyway, I'll be voting for a conservative candidate who has the same views as I do on some key points:
1) A gradual removal of the agricultural subsidies
2) a big NO to any form of patent on software, except in VERY exceptional cases.
3) An invitation should be given to Turkey, to join the EU, provided that they respect the human rights

Probably SP as well, and that idea was supported by the "stemwijzer" (a site where you can get advise based on a few political multiple choice questions)
I don't know the views on software patents of any of these guys, though.

So we have 2 communists already here, 2 little Stalins.

VVD gets my vote, they're the lesser evil.
Sadly there's no choice to vote for withdrawing from the EU and Franco/German domination or I would.

Oh nooo, our little plan for Euro-, and then world domination has been uncovered!!!  Acting devilish Oh nooo, geez, who would have thought that such a superduper mastermind could exist, who discovers all our evil plans and schemes!?! Big grin  Big grin

My grandfather always told me to "vote for the left political parties when you're a student, and for the right political parties after you finished your study". He added: "If you're still voting left after your study, you've done something wrong."

Although I like his words, and am still a student, I'll be voting for the liberal party VVD as well. I just cannot stand the idealistic (/unrealistic) ideas of the socialists.

Kind regards,

Jeroen

Jwenting: why don't you just move to the US?

Getting out of the EU? Get a life...

Out of curiosity: am I right that the SP (Social Party) in The Netherlands = extreme-left?

In Belgium it's just the opposite: our PVDA = extreme-left (they luckily don't get any votes except for 1-2%)

SP evolved from the the communist party. It stands for "Socialistiese Partij" (the missspelling is deliberate, that's what they call themselves). Their party emblem is a rotten tomato being thrown in protest, their slogan "vote against" (that's it, not tell people to vote for something, just to vote against whatever in general terms), tells something about their ideals...
PVDA are "moderate" socialists, meaning they don't openly oppose democracy and royalty.

Well, our Flemisch extreme-right political party doesn't openly oppose royalty and democracy too, although they are also against it.

Both extreme right and extreme left are wrong, the only thing that saddens me is that some people like you only blame the hardcore left, and never the hardcore right (they are as bad).

Jwenting: why don't you just move to the US?

Very accepting of others views, how European leftist of you! The European left is so accepting of the socialists, greens, and communists--and people that would take away your right to freedom if they had the chance. However, the second that someone introduces a thought or votes for someone right of center, its like "Screw you, dumbass!" "Anti-European!" "Hate-monger!"

Poor Jcs17, you clearly have no clue about our politics  Laugh out loud

Besides the fact that I'm a right-wing voter myself, I suggest Jwenting to move to the US to be far enough away from the French border he hates so much (for some stupid nationalistic reason).

Give me a break, the same old shit plays out everytime someone in the right is elected/nominated in Europe--Fortuyn in Holland (xenophobe), Berlusconi (facist), Le Pen (Nazi). Yet there is never any criticism of the left, their politicians, or their policies.

Don't you think the reason for that is most governments in Europe are from the right political side? Therefore their policies are the ones brought to discussion, leaving the opposition (the left parties) to argument against their policies...

quite correct. If you're not leftist you're branded as a fascist.
The press here is so far out of center even the moderate ones among them would call Lenin a right winger.

And what is your definition of a leftie? Somebody who doesn't agree with your extreme policies, and those of Bush?

I'm glad I can say that I'm right-wing, without touching the extremes as you do. I will vote right-wing in the coming elections (as I've done a year ago), and I'm glad that I, as a student of communication sciences, can say that your claims of 'the media is left' are crap.

Strangely I don't consider myself rightwing at all (except in the description of the leftist media who consider anyone left of the socialist party a rightwing extremist).

I'm voting liberal (that's what the Brits would call Tories, the US Republican though I'm a staunch royalist) as always, which is just right of center.
While I don't agree with all their ideas, they're most similar of all parties to what I can agree with so are the lesser evil.

Maybe Belgian press are more neutral than Dutch, it is possible.
But just looking at the press here you'd get the impression that everyone except the far left are fascists whose only goal is to enrich themselves over the sweat and blood of the proletariat.
Of course every single idea by leftwing politicians and union leaders is repeated as gospel...

Jwenting:

"VVD gets my vote,..."

I'm not a bit suprised  Wink/being sarcastic

"quite correct. If you're not leftist you're branded as a fascist."

...or simply incredibly dumb, as is your case.

"The press here is so far out of center even the moderate ones among them would call Lenin a right winger."

Tell me, you read De Telegraaf, don't you and you believe G.B.J. Hilterman writes great articles?

"Strangely I don't consider myself rightwing at all..."

Admit it, you just don't like politics, do you?

"I'm voting liberal (that's what the Brits would call Tories, the US Republican though I'm a staunch royalist)..."

So now the US republicans are liberals, ... Interesting! Don't let Josh hear it!

"But just looking at the press here you'd get the impression that everyone except the far left are fascists whose only goal is to enrich themselves over the sweat and blood of the proletariat."

Its a VVD minister who wants to reintroduce fascists regulations for foreigners. Critisize that party of yours for doing so, don't shoot the messenger!

"Of course every single idea by leftwing politicians and union leaders is repeated as gospel..."

...but don't stand a change under this actual CDA/VVD/D66 government of getting implemented.
