Amr Khaled

Sun Jun 13, 2004 8:42 am

This thread is mainly aimed at the Arab members (only because they are more likely to know him) but everybody is welcome to the discussions.

I wanted to know what people think of Amr Khaled. Since this fantastic man started his speeches years ago he was touched the heart of millions throughout the world especially the young.

His techniques and attitude to teaching is amazing. He has the ability to get to people with his beautiful teachings of Islam. He was able to convince many young men and women in their 20s to become better Muslims. And is loved by so many people of different nationalities, different races, different genders and different ages.

He is still quite young (late 30s), smart looking and always has a smile on his face and (in my opinion) you never get tired of listening to him.

He started is work in Egypt and is doing lectures in Beirut, Lebanon and Qatar at the moment.

So what do you guys think about him?

it seems he still has to learn alot about style and taste, looking at this banner and this very *cough* tasteful suit.

even though i am well aware that the average muslim is totally different then whatever person is described in western tabloids, it is still VERY VERY sad that the muslim world has never experienced a more or less mass movement against faith and the institutions related to it. the enlightenment and the rise of modern philosophy is really something that the otherwise rich arab cultures are lacking.

i believe that faith as mass movement is a thing of the past with the education and communication available to people in second and first world countries and i hope that, when looking at how faith went from important to totally meaningless in europe within 50 years, other regions of the world will be able to make similar progress in such matters.

so uhh to wrap it up:
- stop buying violet suits
- stop using purple banners
- cut off that mustache
- stop teaching things of the past
- cut your hair very short, that half assed haircut where the bald top shines through wont win any style points

Actually, I don't think that suit is half bad.

Of course this is coming from a guy, that thought that a charturse green number that Paul Shaffer was wearing on Letterman once was pretty sharp.

Very true Cedarwings! I know he has a huge impact in Egypt, and I would imagine it is the same in Lebanon since he is making his shows there now. Is that the case?

He is very presentable, not a fanatic yet still religious, and a very good man. He is all that Cedarwings said he is, and I would love to go to one of his lectures.

Horus, his lectures did have a good effect here in Doha, many people attended them and loved them.

QR332, I've been wondering this for a while, but what does "
I want to die in peace like my grandfather - not screaming with fear like his passengers!" mean?

Thanks!

lol Delta, was it you who asked on Airwhiners.net?  Smile

Lets assume this - the grandfather fell asleep at the cockpit, something went wrong, and the plane crashed with him asleep and at peace but the passengers where all screaming and afraid. Make sense? I'm going to be changing it soon anyway.

LOL, Gotcha. I kinda thought it was something like that. Actually I cant remember who asked it on airwhiners but thats where I got the idea from.
BTW are you familiar w/ username fly_emirates? I used to talk to Hamad all the time on MSN but I havent heard from him since the war in Iraq started and I am wondering if he is still on the forum.

Also, Amr Khaled seems like a pretty good influence on Islam. I've been reading up on Islam lately and I think it is a neat religion. I started studying a little about it a few months ago when I dated a girl from Turkish decent and her dad still practiced Islam.

Delta,
Islam, if studied and practicied as it is supposed to be, is a great religion, it is just really bad that it gets such negative attention because of some idiots who beleive anything non-muslim is evil. I'm not familiar with fly_emirates, does he live in Qatar? I'm wondering cos Hamad is a very common name here.
