Countries To Not Get Passport Stamp From

Wed Jun 23, 2004 2:07 pm

When traveling internationally, what countries is it advisable to not get a passport stamp from and why?

Obviously, it is stupid for Americans to get a Cuban stamp.

I've heard that it can be a problem to have a stamp from Israel and to then visit an Islamic country. Any truth to that?

Cheers,

Hi DFWLanding Path,

I used to have colleagues travelling to Israel when I was working for AlliedSignal (Honeywell now) , that time the Israeli Visa was a piece of paper attached to your passport , all the stamps were done on this piece of paper which was removed when leaving the country leaving nothing on your passport. I do not know if this is still the same , probably someone who has travelled to Israel in the recent past can explain better.

Yes what you have heard about the hostility to visitors to Israel did exist in the countries surrounding and was true in the past but I dont think it should be too much of an issue now days.

Regards

Well it is still very much an issue, however as you described it well, Israeli immigration do not stamp passports, they issue a paper visa which they take back upon departure.

But the opposite is true also, if you happen to have stamps from Arab countries you might very well be kicked out by Israeli security before departure to TLV. Which countries in particular, how many stamps, what period in time, etc... remains a question mark for me.

I am an American and have a Colombian stamp. It often gets me searched a little more than usual when I come back into the US.

I suggest you just fly military charters! When I returned from Kuwait aboard an ATA L1011, we landed at the international terminal at BWI. When transiting the usual customs area, there was one guy watching all 200 of us just walk right through. In addition to returning troops, there were also "space available" passengers from Aviano & the Azores aboard. Of course, this happened in '99, so I would like to think that has changed these days!

I pass through US customs and immigration two or three times a week and have never once had them look at the other stamps in my passport.

Happiness is not seeing another trite Ste. Maarten photo all week long.

I was got through with the customs & immigration 2 times with the international flight from CUN-MIA & FCO-JFK. I got no problems with me at all. I did make clear with the immigration before with my bag pick them up and rechecked with my bags to FLL flight.

Never had customs in the US check my passport other than seeing that I got the proper entrance and exit stamps.

Well, I have a whole page of Cuba stamps in my Canadian passport from my many trips there. I've also been to the States and no INS agent or Customs person has ever made a comment yet.

Yes, this is good one for your stamp with the customs or immigration. If you got through with the immigration and will scans with the passport into the computer and make sure will not have problems with the passport or background check.

Photopilot, that's because you're Canadian, not American, and you're allowed to visit Cuba, we aren't.

I'd think pretty much any Middle Eastern country in your passport will give you an extra look at US customs, just because.

The INS may not care about Arabic stamps in your passport, but the officious and unnecessary pre-check in screeners sure as hell do. I have Jordanian, Egyptian and Tanzanian stamps/visas in my passport, and several times (particularly in the UK, where these people seem to be hired for their paranoid delusional tendencies) the pre-check in screeners that harass you before you check in for any US-bound flight have asked me a whole string of questions about why I went there, how long for, who with etc etc - its such crap, but you have to play along and not annoy them otherwise they're probably allowed to shoot you. Like a terrorist is actually going to use the same passport to travel to the US that he used to go to Afghanistan for training - DUH !!

Oy, Fascists ! F*** OFF ! I'm a citizen of a free country, I go to these countries because I'M ALLOWED TO !

P.S. Israeli stamps (or any evidence that you travelled to Israel such as stamps from the Jordanian or Egyptian land-border crossings) will prevent you from entering a whole lot of countries, not just Middle Eastern ones - I think Malaysia, Indonesia and Brunei also dont allow entry.
