Thu Jul 01, 2004 11:39 pm

44.5-Hot dogs (with bun) eaten last year by Takeru "Tsunami" Kobayashi in TWELVE MINUTES during the Nathan's Hot Dog eating contest.

293 million - Projected number of U.S. residents on this July 4th. In July 1776, there were about 2.5 million people living in the colonies (clearly not including Native Americans).

150 million - Hot dogs expected to be consumed. There's about a 1-in-4 chance the hot dogs originated in Iowa, which has 15.5 million hogs and pigs - about a quarter of U.S. total.

$157.2 million - The value of fireworks imported from China in 2003. Total imports were $163.1 million.

11 - Places with "Independence" in their name. The most populous of these is in Missouri, with 113,027 residents.

And add to that...

2- The number of US Presidents who died on that date. John Adams, and Thomas Jefferson both passed on July 4th 1826.

And you can add to that:

1 - The number of US Presidents born on that date (Calvin Coolidge - 7/4/1872).
