WHY You Respect Those On Your Respected List?

Sat Jul 03, 2004 9:12 am

Taking a page from Airwhiners...

...since it's one of the few positive posts I've seen (and contrasting to most previous respect-rating posts we've had here): why do you respect those on your list, or any others?

For me:

GDB, Gordon Roxburgh, & B747-437B:
The holy trinity of ConcordeBoy's aviation education-- the overwhelming majority of what I know of the industry, I learned from them

IndustrialPate:
Classic example of book-smark-but-completely-lacking-a-shred-of-common-sense.... which is why he ain't here anymore  Laugh out loud Always good for a chat though.

Solnabo & Adria:
ha! ha ha ha ha! he he he! Amusing Big grin
On a serious note, they very rarely have the foggiest idea as to what they're talking about... however, they'll still vehemently defend what they believe in.

KROC:
Godfather to us all
*genuflects*

USAirwys757:
Cute as hell, but twice as dumb. Makes him fun.

Hamlet69, B2707SST, & Dynkrisolo:
If you want a full-fledged explanation with perfect detail, these are the three to turn to

Delta777-XXX:
Hank is just plain friggin' ~NUTS~  Nuts. Real fun cat to be around, amuses me to no end.

MAH4546, MSYTristar, & Tom in NO:
Love their hometown, and can defend it whenever unjustly downcast.

CXFlyboy & 777gk:
Always great to have actual pilots on hand....

Gigneil, A330323X, AA61Hvy, Artsyman, & LH423:
...ditto for verbal punchin' bags as well.  Big grin

DfwRevolution
Still scratchin' my head on this one, so I'll get back to you  Laugh out loud

MattD - Never see him around anymore but was a great contributor to the forums. Wish he'd come around more often.

Superfly - One of our more humourous members and excellent taste in music. Both of these members get additional points for being into old music mediums.

BCAinfoSys - For excellent insider news from Boeing.

IhadaPheo - For being by far the most fair and benevolent moderator.

DLKAPA - Able to go toe to toe with the radical righties in the forum

Alpha1 - Ditto

The Hawaii guys- Bluewave707, Aloha73g, Ha763, HA_DC9, Je89_w, for keeping the HNL Rarities thread alive and other hawaii-related contributions. There are more hawaii guys but these ones are on my list. And Je89_w has awesome pics.

Clickhappy - Excellent pics

InnocuousFox - For working on the most realistic airline simulation yet. Best of luck.

captaingomes - Just a nice guy I have a lot of respect for.

Planemaker - For aviation knowledge

Sushka - Although our political beliefs are polar opposites, I still have a lot of respect for him. He's an SLC resident and when we had the SLC chats often he was good to talk with about aviation in our area. Haven't seen him lately.

727lover - big fan of the 727 which is my favourite plane but also a good reputation for intelligent postings.

That'll do.  Smile

Some random thoughts on a portion of my RU list

KROC.. The attitude, The man, the legend, the SHAFT and the Tally Ho

arsenal@lhr.. The humor (well he does try), Innuendo threads (did he ever get one?)

Gunships.. a fine long time user of this site

imisspiedmont.. His genuine love of aviation and family

Lortab 7.5mg.. The name, the humor, I wonder who he is now?

McRingRing... An original superpower I wonder who he is now as well

777236ER.. I do not always agree with what he says but I enjoy how he says it and he does use facts to back up his opinions

dripstick... seems to be an all around good guy, well though out posts and good sense of humor

9V-SVA... What can I say???, funny and has ;ots o' spunk

kolobokman.. opened minded, can discuss topics with insulting the "otherside"

lapper.. amusinig and the NAME !!

mirrodie.... intelligent, open minded, funny, enjoys reading the large print edition of Ophthalmology Today

L-188.. Honest, smart uses facts in his debates and enjoys pastrami

AA61Hvy... also can debate with facts, can be quite funny, i better come up with more compliments or he might club me over the head with a weight

174thfwff.. motivated, smart, honest

yyz717... opinionated, intelligent, willing to debate and use also has the facts to back up his opinion whether you agree with him or not.

B747-437B. Aviation knowledge second to none, great sarcasim, great ability to pick out imposters and he gave me my first moderatoring job and for that I owe him a beer at the Dixon Rd Keg

garnetpalmetto a fine member of the site, fuuny, smart and witha username that I still have to think about

ScarletHarlot.. The posts, the visual imagaryof the name and the car

WellHung... An even more spunky version of my ZippyTheChimp alter ego, not afraid to push the limits of the rules when the need arises (and even when the need does not arise)

Tbar220... Another user who can discuss things with out insulting others and their opinions

LHMARK... The man, the band, the hair and make-up not tomention the posts

Still a few more on the list but I am an old man and it's just about time for a nap or is it time to open up a new industrial sized vat of Levitra

IHAP

People get on my list because they show that they are real enthusiasts and put out really interesting and useful information that turns out to be correct. Some non-av people get on because, even if I disagree, they can argue their point cogently and using facts to back themselves up, without getting too vitriolic and vulgar. I added the folks from the Seattle trip because they are true enthusiast road warriors who back up their words with action and take the trip JUST BECAUSE ITS AIRPLANES!!

My list...

HAL, Rick767, Bellerophon, M717, Cx_flyboy, Slamclick, Jetguy, Scootertrash - all pilots with lots of good info and a pleasant attitude (for the most part, anyway  Smile ). I've learned a TON from them. I hope M717 comes back to a.net sometime.

Clickhappy - the first person to respect me, and he takes awesome photos.

Kevi747 - great stories, and tolerant of all the bs that gets thrown at him.

Captaingomes - good info about Toronto, and he's Portuguese-Canadian, so his family and my husband's family have probably crossed paths at some point.

GDB - he worked on Concorde. He shares his stories and info with us. I am not worthy. (Same goes to Bellerophon)

Jhooper - I don't remember why, but I remember being impressed with something he said.

UAL747 - to go through so much crap in life and still be the cool person he is, he deserves my respect.

SWA_TPA - one of my fellow a.net girls. Funny and with good stories.

N754pr - Daryl was a great help when Cx_flyboy was here taking delivery of a new 777. Love his pictures too.

Vaporlock - Phyllis is my Northern Ontario girl! Such a sweetie!

IHAP - a gentleman, and so positive despite his health issues. A great guy and one I'd be pleased to take curling.  Smile/happy/getting dizzy

Mirrodie - his Concorde trip report started it, and talking to him sealed it. I think one of his posts about religion totally convinced me of his coolness. Oh, and the Travel Channel show didn't hurt.  Smile/happy/getting dizzy

MsLLSmith - a girl with smarts and fascinating stories.

Superfly - how can you not respect this dude?  Smile/happy/getting dizzy Anyone who likes girls in all their shapes and sizes gets my vote.

Mr. Spaceman - he sent me a photo link that went in my "Pilots who rock" photo album. Good guy with good questions that lead to good discussions.

Beta120 - my "membership copilot" from the curling club and my good friend. She only lives about a mile away from me!

BCAInfoSys, PizzaAndPlanes, Dinker225, WindowSeat, N685FE, DL021, Charlib52 - guys from the Seattle trip. It was fun to hang out with them, and they all get my respect, even though they forgot to tell me and Beta120 that they were going to be two hours late to the Everett tour. Sigh.  Smile/happy/getting dizzy
But that was when I ruled the world

This is like a quiz! Kinda hard to remember why some are on mine. Here's my best shot....

Crosswind - great guy with tons of useful information he is only too willing to share. Plus his postings are reasonable, balanced and well thought out

FA4UA,UALPHLCS - again a great deal of info that is readily shared. Plus always nice to have the insiders perspective from UA

Scottysair - always something to say  Big grin

ConcordeBoy, VSLover,LH423 - jeez these guys just have me in stitches. Funny.

Diamond - for the tenacity and sheer doggedness of the war of words during the infamous thread a while ago. Many a lesser character would have just left.

Alcregular - great wealth of knowledge.

Jaspike - brilliant trip reports and a new c/s fan of BY.  Big grin

Give It a Go - superb trip report, again, from an insiders point of view.

LH423 - as with ConcordeBoy and VSLover, just great to watch the war of words going on. Big grin And as someone else said, "the man, the band and the hair"

AIR757200 - A fellow travel agent, which makes it easy. Again, he knows his stuff. Plus some bloody funny non-av replies. Plus I love that Diesel jeans signature! hehehe

WidgetBoi - just added now as he is a major contributor to the Trip Report section.

Arsenal@LHR - despite his strange taste in football clubs, he is actually intelligent and knows his stuff.  Big grin

And as for everyone else, I can't remember right now. I am sure that there was a good reason though.

Mark

Worldoftui,
...Thanks for the kind comments!  Smile

I really don't use my RR list so that explains the lack of people on it, but who is on it usually means they are good people (...like Worldoftui)- but there are a lot of people on here who are just as nice but all the clicking and stuff to add names- overwhelming. ..lol.

VSLover- I enjoy chatting with... loved the phone conversation with him at 2:30 a.m... I was done clubbing in Detroit and he was only getting started in NYC.. so jealous!!!  Big grin

Happy 4th!

RE: WHY You Respect Those On Your Respected List?

Mon Jul 05, 2004 7:52 am

ACVitale : A very close friend and colleague of mine from outside the boards. I was a groomsman at his wedding a few years ago. He remains one of the sharpest airline minds I have ever known.

DeltaSFO : Another one of my best friends outside the boards. He was also one of the co-founders of airwhiners.net when the idea was born on a balmy summer evening on my balcony in Atlanta three years ago.

Alpha 1 : I must take responsibility for introducing Alpha 1 to airliners.net almost 4 years ago! My apologies. Another friend of mine from outside the boards.

cmk10 : Another good friend from outside the boards. One of the finest young men you will ever meet.

SR 103 : Yet another friend outside the boards. Accounts for 40% of the 2.5 Parsis on airliners.net

FLYYUL : For all his Montreal propoganda, Mark is a wonderful young man who has never failed to show me great hospitality whenever I visit his city.

yyz717 : Ironically enough, Neil is very normal in real life unlike his radical right wing alter ego on the forums.

jaysit : Alas, our paths have crossed narrowly twice now without actually meeting up. Able to discuss Indian bureaucracy using very colorful language.

Henks : Very easygoing and fair person to deal with. Airliners.net has stabilized a lot since he came on board.

captaingomes : The unofficial airliners.net ambassador in Toronto. Great guy in person.

Slawko : If he actually posted half as many opinions that he shares off the forums, he'd be up there as one of the most respected users.

BA : Interesting to see how the annoying kid of the classic "Korean Air in Denver" threads of 4-5 yrs ago has actually matured to the point that even he finds them funny now!

WGW2707 : This boy is strange, but its hard not to like him once you learn how to tolerate his eccentricities.

UA744Flagship : Hass is another strange and eccentric yet very bright young man.

OH-LGA : Kai is Kai. If you've ever met him you know what I mean. Absolutely fantastic young man.

artsyman : Jeremy is an enigma, despite his insistence to the contrary. He has the rare ability to combine frivolity and seriousness in parallel.

teahan : One of the airliners.net users who is high on my "want to meet" list. Remarkably sharp and insightful for his age.

ihadapheo : One of my stalwart airwhiners admin in his alterego as zippythechimp.

The777Man : Lars has the coolest hobby in the world. How many people collect 777 operators????

9V-SVA : Anyone who drags themselves to the airport at 8am on a weekend just to have breakfast with me is a good guy in my book!

KROC : The conscience of airliners.net. Takes a stand for the little guy sometimes and bullies him the rest of the time. Father of the Shaft and the KO.

VC-10 : Paul may seem to be a crusty old fart as a moderator, but a good guy to have a beer and chat with in person!

mandala499 : Gerry is always good for gossip and information. Another good guy to beer and chat with in person.

Sabena332 : Add Patrick to the list of airliners.net users who is always willing to down a few beers while discussing the industry!

ConcordeBoy : There are only 3 absolutes in this world : death, taxes and Freddie's hatred of the A340.

777gk : Gene was a great guy to trade gossip and nostalgia with. Alas too many kiddies telling this 767/777 pilot how his plane really flew has almost driven him away.

jessman, azjubilee, leskova, ElkGrove, FLYACYYZ, PA110, legacyins, BarfBag, Maharaja, gamps : Folks that have earned their place on my RR list through a consistent display of knowledge on the forums and a high "info to bullshit ratio".

TKMCE, mrniji, Vimanav, C-GRYK, swissgabe, airlinelover, FlyGuyClt, USAirwys757, USAFHummer, IndianFlyboy, AA61Hvy, Russophile : Folks who I have corresponded with or talked to or even met outside the forums and who have convinced me that they are deserving enough of my respect, either for their aviation knowledge or generally as good people.

Dazed767: Justin knows what he is talking about. I have met up with him and flown with him and I really enjoy hanging out w/ him. Also an MCO member

DeltaGuy: Chris is an awesome dude. Good taste in cars and aircraft. We were going to hang out over the weekend but some scheduling conflicts didnt make it possible. Hopefully soon we will meet up and chill.

BH346: I have known him for a long time! We started talking back when I started the TWFirst Forums and never looked back! Great guy

777YYC: Another member from the TWFirst Saga. I know he remembers all the "other" usernames  Big thumbs up

DALelite: I really enjoy his posts and share a lot of the same opinions.

DeltaRules: Josh is a cool dude! He shares the interest of Nascar which is awesome (Even if he is a Jeff Gordon fan  Big thumbs up) He is also a big Delta fan which is even better!

Deltadude8: I have been talking to Henry since 1998 and have always got along with him. Hopefully his Chiefs will do better next year.

LY772: One of the cool Israeli's on the forum. I share similiar opinions and enjoy his posts.

foxecho: Totally enjoy his posts!!

DLKAPA: Great member! I enjoy his posts and respect his opinions. This proves that I can get along w/ someone of different political beliefs.

ScottysAir: Say what ya want, but like DLKAPA said on airwhiners that nobody has more passion for aviation than Scotty. This dude does tons of research and tries really hard!

Their is a lot of other members I respect here that I show respect to in other ways.

Well, some of us spoilsports needs to make himself heard, so here goes... Big grin

Although I appreciate the nice sentiment of someone dedicating one of his RUL entries to me, I´ve got a bit of a problem with exhibiting my appreciation for all of you in such a list.

First of all, I don´t like to indicate that I´d disrespect everyone who´s not on the list. No, even if I´ve annoyed you, fought with you over issues or even mocked your position on some matter I don´t extend that to any kind of disrespect for the person having those strange views or opinions.  Wink/being sarcastic

I can only hope to glimpse a part of anybody´s real personality in here, so any kind of judgment would be based on vague evidence in any case.

Respect for another person should be a given, up to a point. And one of the reasons I like this place is that I thoroughly enjoy the virtual company of this international bunch of nice, insecure, obnoxious (yeah, count me in!  Big thumbs up), insightful, aggressive, witty, cryptic, generous, boisterous, completely fake, knowledgeable, xenophobic, silly, sardonic and occasionally even genuine people!  Big thumbs up

If you can read this, you´re part of the reason why I´m coming back to this place; It´s certainly a zoo, but I´m just another inmate myself...  Wink/being sarcastic

Delta767-300ER: I've known Dan for a long time, he's one of the coolest members on this site. He's a great person to talk to, he's really friendly, and we have a lot in common. We have basically the same taste with politics, cars, you name it. Dan is also training to become a police officer, I'm really happy for him, I have great respect for law enforcement.

LOT767-300ER: Peter here is also a great person we have on this site. I haven't talked to him for awhile though. He also takes really good pictures at Chicago. Another great member on these boards.

N766UA: Nice person to talk to, I always enjoy reading his posts, and I share a lot of views. N766UA is yet another member that makess this site worth visiting.

cwapilot: Great member here, really nice to talk to, and I share a lot of his views.

GD727: Look at his info "I am a Boeing loving Conservative who is very proud of the USA!" There's nothing else I need to say!

artsyman: Despite his name, he's straight. Great contributing member to the boards, always enjoy his posts.

United Airline: This is one nice kid to talk to, he has a real passion for flying, and he's learned a lot from this site.

Delta777-XXX: Haven't heard from him in awhile, but he's a really nice person to talk to.

I still respect Alpha 1, because he is a great contributing member on these boards, and he always backs up his own beliefs, he's a great debator. However, he's decided to stop respecting me for no reason what-so-ever, so.....................

Mirrodie - For writing a top trip report about the Concorde experience, and I knew him from the Concorde SST forums beforehand.

Concord977 - A brilliant thread with photos back in April about the Convair 880. Also a very nice guy in private e-mails back and forth as well.

Aa717driver, Elwood64151 - Really interesting responses in "The Quandary of Cost Cutting for Airlines" thread.

Bellerophon - Recently wrote something that I agreed with head and shoulders. Also has a brain, knows his shit, and I believe he's also on the Concorde SST forums - so I've seen it before.

ConcordeBoy, kellmark, Mark777300, WidgetBoi, GDB - They have either made me laugh out loud, or have written something I've agreed with, or said something profound that I didn't know and have learned. Either that or they said something nice to me!

There are a lot of people I see post that I like, but I don't add people to my Respected Users until they write something that really touches a chord with me in one way or another.

Trent.
I do quite enjoy a spot of flying - more so when it's not in Economy!

RE: WHY You Respect Those On Your Respected List?

Tue Jul 06, 2004 5:05 am

There are so many who've made a good impression on me at one point or another. See, I like some people on A.net...I'm not the vicious person I come off as on most of the threads.  Wink/being sarcastic

So, let's begin...

LOT767-300ER Now who wouldn't respect Peter? He's got a brain, a cool car, and is one hell of a chat room friend. Shame we don't see him around much anymore.

BH346 Another user we don't see too much of anymore, Brandon is another chat room fly...that's where I know a few of my RUs. He's got brains, and his travels to Okinawa are always interesting.

Kuba74 He said something smart once...I forgot what it was...always good to see a fellow Pole on the boards.

swiss-airplane An intelligent user with some bright things to say.

WN700Driver Haven't seen him in awhile, but once again, intelligent user with some bright things to say.

Gdabski, Danny, Jarek, LOT767SP-LPA Good to see some more Polish folk joining up. We make those damn Elbonians and their cats scared!  Laugh out loud

go canada! Intelligent person who backs up his arguments with facts.

LufthansaUSA He's bright, but his love of LH is what earns my respect. (Even though I'm a bigger LOT fan)

Alpha1 Smart user, once again, backs up his arguments with facts. Sometimes we clash, other times we're in full agreement. I see he pulled me from his RU list...so I guess he's also a bit petty...

GD727 Loves Boeing, loves the 727, and is proud of the US. Our politics may differ a bit...but 3 out of 4 ain't bad!

NWA742 Loves Boeing...my anger against Chevy was based on a personal issue that was my fault, so sorry I ragged on your car man. Pretty much like Alpha1...minus the pettiness...he can argue with facts.

717fan Still believes in the 717, and like me, is sick of shareholder dominance and greed interfering with Boeing's fine R&D work.

N766UA Backs up his arguments with facts, especially on civ-av.

cfalk, Normalspeed We need more smart centrist users like these two. Always backing up their arguments with facts, and doing it in a more calm, rational, and less vicious way...I could learn a thing or two.  Wink/being sarcastic On top of that, Normalspeed is a Patriots fan!

KAUSpilot He and I agree on a lot of things.

Lan_Fanatic He earned my respect by staying out of EU vs. US bitchfests and offering an objective opinion about both sides...that's RARE on these boards.

727_gal Heather's an email friend of mine. Haven't seen her on here in awhile. One of the few level-headed members on here...probably because of her femininity. Am I the only one who respects her for reasons OTHER than she's a girl? Maybe. Though I will admit, I hit on her quite a lot. Sorry Heather...there's someone else now.  Wink/being sarcastic

venuscat2 A chat room fly...actually, he begged me to add him to my RU list. Big grin

KROC Always bright...has a sense of humor, and brings balance to the forums...

Matt D One of the few here who has a shred of common sense...

Navion Just today impressed me with a healthy speech denouncing the same losers who turn every thread into a political bitchfest with their inane cheap shots.

And now my other respected users list...(since only 25 are allowed on the primary list)

Sharpnfuzzy, Konrad, LOTfreak, LOT_POLISH The rest of the Poles on my RU list. The first one in particular has some good knowledge on aviation.

Marco, BartiniMan Two users who take a level-headed look at most things, particularly religion. They don't come off as bible-thumpers, but aren't a bunch of bitter, hateful bigots either.

MD-90 Definitely not for his political views...I just think it's funny that the FBI had a word with him for his 767/WTC thread well before that tragic September Tuesday.

Jwenting Good military aviation knowledge found here. Always interesting to read his posts on the military forum. And, another chat fly as well.

B767-300 Said something knowledgeable in Civ-av...also a fan of my favorite airplane.

TWAL1011 Not around anymore. Shame too. He was a bright user, who backed up his arguments with facts and had plenty of intelligent things to say.

N79969 Don't remember...said something that wasn't half-baked like a lot of what you see on the forums.

C72 Unfortunately, Steve left the forums...but he's still around in the chat rooms. Smart guy, and founder of HoeAir. (you had to be there in chat to know about that.  Laugh out loud )

National_757 He actually had some intelligent things to say with the facts to back them up. Shame he left. He also hosted that Boeing commercial music in my profile, but alas, that seems to be over now. So, if anyone is interested...I'm looking for a new host.

Zauberfloete Another user with amazing command of the facts used to back up his arguments.

USAIRWAYS321, N312RC Two more of my chat buddies!

VirginLover Who wouldn't respect a fan of Virgin Atlantic!?

VSGirl The only person better than a Virgin fan is a Virgin pilot!

And that's my list.

RE: WHY You Respect Those On Your Respected List?

My respected user list consists mostly of people I've chatted with back and forth, or whose opinions I have come to respect and enjoy reading.

CAPITAINGOMES - My first a.net pal. All around good guy and encyclopedia of Canadian airline trivia. A fellow Jetta driver who shares my love for Farvenhugen.
CANADI>NBOY - Someone I'd like to meet some time. His posts about backyard pools near YUL got funnier and funnier the more he drank. I almost cried laughing. He can write about crap and then turn around and write an intelligent and eloquent opinion. Gotta love that. His tribute to T1 was so touching I almost cried a second time. (But I didn't...and don't believe anyone who says I did!!!!!!)
FLYYUL - Met this guy at the TNew trials at YYZ. Damn good guy and I like reading the YUL vs YYZ posts.
GMONNEY - Met Grant at TNew trials also. Great photographer. (Oh, and Grant: I have a pic request for you).
AIRLINEBIZNUT - Started an incredible thread about a year ago defending flight attendants...Opened my eyes.
BOEING747-700 - Have never disagreed with anything he's ever written. Another good Canuck.
BIGPHILNYC - Actually a really decent guy. Who knew?
VAPORLOCK - Another cool Canucklehead who I plan to have a beer with some time at a Leafs game or sitting on the dock at the cottage.
DIAMOND - Tough guy with thick skin. I don't know why people pick on all of his posts. Again, a pretty decent guy whose posts are great.

and the rest --- admittedly mostly Canucks, but all good people who know what they're talking about but don't take themselves too seriously.

There are a few more I should really add too...like Concordeboy. I used to get pissed at his posts...now I seek them...They're hilarious!

Who knew I'd become so attached to a website?G

LH423 - Flattery will get you everywhere #1!

ConcordeBoy - Ah, yes. This is a challenge that will require years to resolve. He is definitely one you want on your side.

SWA TPA - Flattery will get you everywhere #2!

YUL2010 - My fascinating Canadian friend. We have lots in common.

canuckpaxguy - Sent me a couple of supportive emails when I was in a rough spot. You don't forget things like that.

worldoftui - Another guy that keeps things grounded and real.

DLKAPA - My political brother. Wise WAY beyond his years.

concord977 - The smartest and most generous guy I have ever met. My mentor.

Cactus739 - We have a lot more in common than we've had the chance to talk about! Love his posts in the forums because they cut right to the point.

VSLover - He just makes me laugh.

COTXDFW777AA - a fellow Texan (formerly for me), who questions politics closely from both sides, and thinks with his head and heart, rather than partisan bias.

WidgetBoi - One of the first people to say hello to me when I joined. That was kinda nice.

Since you mention it...

though I've used "ConcordeBoy" as an online handle since 1991 (compuserve chat, three sentences per minute  Laugh out loud)... I was going to switch to "777-232LR" after the grounding, but ended up setting that screenname for my ex-roomate on FlyerTalk and Airwise.

Sad too, it's now a much more fitting handle for me, and he never even uses them  Crying

This is a challenge that will require years to resolve
Um, I'm like totally lost cher... so enlighten me: exactly what's the challenge again?  Confused

I would have to say it's because they have posted something that has made me laugh (Starlionblue caused me to laugh w/a full mouth of coffee, twice) or caused me to think.
