Nascar Non-alcohol Fan Zones

Fri Jul 09, 2004 4:29 pm

http://www.nascar.com/2004/news/headlines/cup/07/08/bc.car..nascar.booze.free.ap/index.html

I came across this earliar today on nascar.com. I knew that Atlanta Motor Speedway had an alcohol free section but I didnt know other tracks did to. I am a big fan of this. I personally dont have a problem with drinkers since all of my buddies that go to Nascar races with me drink. The thing that pisses me off is like Mr. Spangenberg said he didnt appreciate drunk fans telling young ladies to lift up their shirts. I realize sober fans will do it to but the alcohol makes fans more aggressive.

I think its a great alternative for fans looking for a slightly less rowdy crowd.

Lets hear some of the other Nascar fans thoughs on this.

The Brickyard 400 is a month away here in Indy. IIRC, IMS (Indianapolis Motor Speedway) has seating areas along the back stretch (infield side) that is family oriented seating only.

Ya, I read about that. Have you ever sat in the infield to view a race at Indy? I think it would be fun to watch a race from the infield.

Dan, I have sat in the infield to watch practice for all three race types, but for the races themselves (NASCAR excluded), I have seats in the stands. I don't go the The Brickyard. BTW, I have "Killer" F1 seats. The infield area I was thinking of is just east of the "Museum" as you enter off of 16th St. They have hills that go around the southern part of the infield section of the F1 track and the three holes of the golf course that is also in the infield of the track.

That is cool you have been able to watch all 3 race types. Thats neat how they have the hills around the southern part of the F1 track. I knew they had part of a golf course in the infield, but I didnt know how many holes. I hope to go to Indy for the F1 race and the Indy 500 sometime.

Dan, it is a real experience. I love racing, but I love "People Watching" as well. The track is becoming more and more family oriented.

Why would this piss you off? So a guy doesn't want to listen to drunk assholes shouting at skanks ERRRRRRRRRRRR young ladies to lift up their shirts. Yeah, such an unreasonable request.  Yeah sure

Tiger119, people watching can be fun. I tend to do a lot of people watching when I'm at an airport to.

KROC, I have been guilty of it in the past but its a respect thing.

Not only a good idea for NASCAR, but other racing as well. Hell, it's a good idea for ALL sports venues. I support the format wholeheartedly, and I'm a large stockholder in Anheuser-Busch  Smile Regards...Jack. PS; has anyone visited 'the pit' (not the pits) when in full swing years ago at the Indy 500? Definately a place to avoid with your woman.
all best; jack

I don't know how much beer fans can bring into the grandstands at NASCAR races....when I go to Michigan International Speedway, you are now restricted to a 6"X6"X12" softsided cooler....used to be, you could bring in any size cooler, as long as it fit underneath your bench seat.
Having a smoking section in a restaurant is like having a peeing section in a swimming pool.....

From what I would imagine, as much as they can fit in that 6x6x12 cooler!  Big grin

Back on topic, I think it's a good idea for those who don't want to deal with drunk fans (although I had fun watching two get in an argument in front of me this year...and they were 20 seats apart  Laugh out loud). They can get out of hand & end up ruining the race for/dumping beer, etc. on the sober fans.

Some of the fans get drunk before the race, too, so you could get some fans who are pissed (drunk) in those sections even before the green flag who could cause problems, which may be something they need to watch for.

Beer and tits are part of all racing (even F1), if you aren't ready for little Timmy to see drunks and boobies then maybe you should leave his young ass at home.
