911 Movie?

Fri Jul 09, 2004 12:59 pm

Just wondered what peoples thoughts were regarding to the possibility of a movie/mini series being made about the events of 911. I know they did make a telemovie on the events of the previous bombing of the WTC and the documentary by a French film maker called 911.

Do you think this will happen or public backlash will prevent it being made.

thanks
ted.

It wouldnt supprise me if they did.....maybe somthing like Titanic, the Movie??? I hope hollywood does somthing about it. It would probably be one of the most profitable movies ever made. I bet that the minute 9/11 occoured, they began pondering ideas, e.t.c.

This is NOT a political comment thread, Jwenting...so lets keep it on topic, huh?

Now, to get back on topic. Yes, I do think there will be a 9/11 movie. It's a matter of time, and wether it's tastefully done. No one will respond well poorly done movie, such as a romance movie, or a action hero movie. That's what will make it tough to do.

I don't think it would be a "big hit" seeing how almost every network possible stopped all of their regular planned seasons and some how managed to tie in their characters and 9/11. I don't think it's that it's not important as much as it is why would anyone what to have to relive what they did on that tragic, mildly worm Tuesday in September. We all know what happened. We all know how many died, suffered, and are still damaged. Why does some "movie maker" (the real thinker who came up with such a plot) need to make money off of a story we are all so familiar with.

I think movies like Fahrenheit 9/11 are pushing it but it doesn't focus on the actual event of 9/11. Like hour one, hour two, hour three. NO ONE CARES ANY MORE! I think most if not all people are aware of what happened and would rather have it be just left alone. When I say no one cares it just that it wouldn't be some big shocker to us. It's like being told the end of the movie before you go to see it.

Again may all of those lost in the 9/11 attacks and those still being lost in Iraq due to the events of 9/11 (I'm not even going to get into it about how stupid our president is b/c every time I do I seem to get deleted) rest in peace.

It probably will happen, but not at the moment as the scars are a little too fresh.

The TV miniseries may well appear one day. But at the moment it would be unfortunate (the best word I can think of) if it did. Too much emotion for it to be now.

There is something different about 9-11:

Let me start with the example of Titanic: why was it a success? because we wanted to imagine what that people felt there; how that ship would look ñlike when sinking, how could be the iceberg.

Earthquake: we wanted to know how would look those buildings falling due to an earthquake, or the village destroyed after the collapse of the dam.

Armageddon: We wanted to know how would look a big asteroid approaching to Earth; imagine how would it be destroyed.

Day after tomorrow: what would happen of another glacier age would come? How would Liberty Statue look frozen?

BUT! We don't need to imagine how would look/feel if the WTC collapse after a terrorist attack: WE ALREADY WATCHED AND MOURNED IT!.
Why to pay for watching an imaginary scenario of what already happened and was well recorded?
We've seen thousand of different shots of 9.11, taken from different angles. In this case, we don't need the movies to show us how would it look or how did it look, because in this particular case we know!

Titanic, Earthquake, Armageddon, etc... We have to use our imagination, then we have the movie
9.11: we don't. We are even so tired of the same image again.

A movie of 9.11 should be based on stories, on drama, not in special effects as the examples posted.

Good point Arcano. I think the only successful 9/11 movie would center around maybe the heroics of one person, or maybe the shattered lives of one particular family, not the events in general. As we say in the journalism business, Personalise the story.

I agree with Arcano

Personally I think that if a movie will be made in will be at least 20 years down the road, the time for it to settle in the back of our heads, also there will be more knowledge known hopefully by then and it will not be as politically packed as it would eb today. Anything done today would be tactless.

BINGO!!!!

Which is why you know that those sneaky bastards in Hollywierd will figure out a way to work a f**k scene into a movie based upon crashing airplanes and falling towers, a la Titanic.

Naw, never stopped any of those 70's disaster flicks like "The Towering Inferno", "The Posideon Adventure" or the Airport serials from filling a plane or building or ship up with celebrities that book on Hollywood squares.

Actually thinking about it, this year it has been 25 years since Airport 79 "The Concorde" came out.

Maybe it is time to make an 25 year return of the Airport Series.

George Kennedy could come out of retirement as a retired A&P/pilot who singlehandledly sabotages a hijacked plane he is flying on thatthe hijackers intend to crash into..say the White House, forcing it to go down in a cornfield saving live on the ground but sacrificing his own....

I think Joe Patroni would have wanted to go out that way.

It will be done someday but not for at least a few more years, as is said above. it's still too fresh in the public mind. Remember how the Vietnam War was avoided as a movie subject for a number of years after it ended in 1973, until 1978's "The Deer Hunter" and 1979's "Apocalypse Now". God forbid it should be done like a cheesy 1970's disaster film; it must be done right with the proper somber tone and reverence to pay the proper respects to the tragedy. Perhaps a good working or even final title for such a film that would truly do justice to the horrific events of that day might be "Never Forget".
