Well I don't anything about bartending school but I former co-worker bartended when in university down in MN. He said it's a great way to make decent cash while you're in University. I wouldn't do it myself because I have no patience for drunks but to each their own.

My girlfriend went to bartending school a couple of years ago. I think it cost her like $800 for a six-week course. They offer job placement help after you finish.

Went to bartending school at National Bartenders (or National Bartending School) in Los Angeles. Two week course, $400. Learned 150-200 drinks or so, I think. They have job placement as well. I'm not working as a bartender, but the school was worth it I think. The instructor I had was great - he gave some history behind drinks and such as well as demonstrating how to make them.

Was it because you couldnt find a job as a bartender or because you are just not in for the job right at this time?

I will be attending American Professional Bartender's Academy (that the name?) in Calumet City, IL. I can't attest to much right now, but it is pricey. A 60 hour course costs $1000 when there's no special, but you pay for what you get. They don't teach shortcuts or gimmicks, they emphasize real life fundamentals to bartending. During a consultation, one student in the course came in early to practice mixing drinks, which they allow, and he seemed to be a hotshot at it. I'm not 21 yet, but that's how I intend on paying for flight in eight months. Also, you're under their wings for life as they usually have job placement opportunities for any alumnus. Overall, I'd say if you have the cash to shell out, go for it.

Check my earlier post:

My GF's course was 3 weeks long, but did cost around $700-$800.
