Cactuswings Gives Wierd Error

Wed Jul 28, 2004 1:12 am

I recently copied a chart of stored aircraft from the site, to make it easier for me to figure out how many 727s the majors still had in the desert. IE crashed while Word was picking up the table (I didn't save it), and now everytime I visit, I get the "Internet Explorer has encountered an error and needs to close" error, with the following...

Details:
Appname: iexplore.exe AppVer: 6.0.2800.1106 ModName: Unknown ModVer: 0.0.0.0 Offset: 01437050

Files Included in this error report:
C:DOCUME~1DerekLOCALS~1TempWERB.tmp.dir00appcompat.txt

What do you guys think?

Have you tried an alternative browser, such as Firefox or Mozilla?

Yes I have, but I've always returned to IE. So, "get a Mac" or "get Mozilla" are not appreciated responses.

Two things I can think of.....the file is a text file, see if you can open it from your hard drive using notepad. Another option is it got corrupted during the download. You can right click on the IE icon and go into properties. (Internet properties if you use XP...)in the middle of the screen you can delete files to clear out your temp files and revisit the site and try to download it again....

See if any of this applies. It mentions the exact numbers you gave (iexplore.exe AppVer: 6.0.2800.1106 )

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;831432&Product=ie

Iexplore.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close" error message when you try to start Internet Explorer
View products that this article applies to.
SYMPTOMS
When you try to start Microsoft Internet Explorer, it may stop abruptly (crash), and you may receive the following error message:

Iexplore.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.
If you click the Click here link at the bottom of the message box, error signature information that is similar to the following error signature information may appear: App name App version Module name Module version Offset
Iexplore.exe 6.0.2800.1106 Mo030414s.dll 1.0.0.0 000294cc
Note The signature may list one of the following files instead of the mo030414s.dll file:
M030106shop.dll
M030206pohs.dll
Mdefshop.dll
Moaa030425s.dll
Moz030715s.dll
CAUSE
This problem occurs because one of the following browser helper objects (BHO) is installed on your computer:
BuyersPort
Morpheus
Morpheus Shopping Club
WURLD Shopping Community
Additionally, you logged on to the computer with a limited user account. The BHO tries to modify certain system files and Windows Registry entries that require administrative credentials to access. As a result, when the BHO cannot access these files and registry entries, Internet Explorer stops abruptly.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this problem, remove the BHO from your computer. For information about how to remove the BHO, contact the manufacturer of the program.

I can't find any of those on my computer. But, I found on a Google search that disabling browser extensions fixes it. C:/WINDOWS/Downloaded Program Files contains:

Microsoft XML Parser for Java.ocd
voxacm
ipixx.ocx
IPIXX
DiskFAU.dll
opuc
iuctl
swflash
jinstall-1_4_2_04
PCpitstop.dll
PCPitstop

I would just disable it, but I have the Google toolbar and other programs that I don't want to eliminate.

Well, I wasn't going to ask you to give up IE totally, just use Mozilla or Firefox to get the file(s) that you needed on the site.

Well as a matter of fact, I did actually try that. But, Mozilla didn't recognize the table as a table, so I got a jumbled mess in Word that defyed the whole purpose of pasting it into Word in the first place.

Okay: Get a Macintosh!  Big thumbs up

But you´ve read it yourself: He´ll rather continue to flog himself with IE under Windows. Masochists do have a right to live in suffering, if they so choose.  Wink/being sarcastic

L.1011: (sigh) What do you expect from the liberals?

The same I expect from everybody else: Computers and software that simply work? Shock! Horror!!  Nuts

By the way, both John Kerry and George Bush are using Apple computers (PowerBooks). So no help there, either.  Wink/being sarcastic

The answer you seek is simple, both windows and mac suck the big one, so get linux. Too bad im stuck running windows and linux, not just linux, I need Longho** and XP to play FS etc, and Linux to use when XP and Longho** wont work. And did you try right clicking and hitting save target as?

L.1011: So Klaus, with your vast knowledge of computers, would you mind helping

I just did above. It´s the only real solution. (A different browser might be a first step as well.)

Everything else would be a shot in the dark: It could be that you´ve either got one of the thousands of Windows viruses/worms/trojans or one of the components of IE crapped out again. Clearing the IE caches and history might also help.

L.1011: one of those loudmouth Americans?

Nationalities don´t matter among the poor victims of crappy software...  Wink/being sarcastic

GKirk: Klaus still uses Windows, 3.1

Good joke. Actually, I´m using MacOS X 10.3.4 "Panther".

L.1011: LOL GKirk. I used to have that pathetic excuse for an OS. Quite funny now, but it was state of the art when it came out lol.

No, it wasn´t. It was a pathetic attempt at a copy of the then-current version of MacOS (which first came out in 1984 and was already better then than Win 3.1 eight(!) years later) and failed even at that. Bill Gates has even admitted that - he uses a Mac as well. How do you think Microsoft "finds" its "innovations"....?  Nuts

Dan2002: The answer you seek is simple, both windows and mac suck the big one, so get linux.

Well, I´ve got some experience with all of them... So why do you think I´m using MacOS instead?  Wink/being sarcastic

I know all three main OSs and I´ve decided that OS X is the best of them for me by far. How well do you know the others?

Or is it just your hangover speaking again...? Big grin
