Mike Tyson's Boxing Career Is Over

Sat Jul 31, 2004 4:17 pm

I just don't know if he realizes it now, but figure he is only going to work the bareknuckle circut from now on.

Well Mike Tyson got himself knocked on in his first match in 17 months.

He lost to the relatively unknown Danny Williams knocked him out in the 4th round. Tyson's trainers say that a knee injury in the 1st round prevented the fomer heavyweight champion from fighting to the best of his ablity in the match.

Tyson earned about 8 Million for the losing effort, however at least 6 million will go directly to creditors, to whom he owes some 38 million dollars.

At one time the former Drederick Tatum wanna-be was worth some 300 million dollars.

Ah, I love L-188's late night posts. So that makes Tysons debt only 16 million now?

This is good news for me! I bet on Williams to win. Paid out quite nicely!

Cheers,

My math makes it 32 million, not figuring any additional interest.

Tyson should have stopped boxing 5 years ago. He has been a failiure since he got out of jail. And it was great to hear that he got his ass kicked..

Who's Tyson going to fight next? Skippy the Kangaroo? I'd put my money on the 'roo.

Tyson's career has been over since 1988. After losing to Buster Douglas, he lost the edge that he had of being a feared fighter. He's still a feared fighter, mainly because you wonder what insane thing he's going to do next. The Holyfield fight where he bit off part of Holyfield's ear marked the true end of his career, as no major fight destination was even willing to let him fight there. He's a palooka now, nothing more than a sideshow act in the circus that is pro boxing. People watch a Tyson fight because they want to see what crazy stunt he'll do next. Tyson's a train wreck, and that curiousity factor is what gets people to watch. The wheels fell off years ago with Tyson, he might as well become a pro wrestler, as that may be the only way he could make any money.

What is really sad, is the fact that Tyson was on his way to becoming the one of the greatest heavyweights of all time. Until he, of course, he decided he needed a posse everytime he went somewhere.

Once his mentor, I believe Cus D'Amatto, passed away, Tyson has been a shell of his former self.

If he legitimately tore a ligament in his knee then the fight should be re-fought when Tyson is 100%

Tyson is a bitch, whose boxing skills left him years ago, sometime after he raped Desire Washington. Thing is, he is not done boxing, because he still has PPV appeal. As long as promoters can generate interest, and as long as boxing currently sucks like it does, then Tyson will sell PPV's at 40 to 50 bucks a pop. Face it. Allot of us would pay just to watch Tyson get his ass beat by some second rate fighter.

His loss cost him a 4 fight deal with Bob Arum worth $80 million, too. Tyson's future will last only as long as he's still a Pay Per View draw.

Or he'll become a popular sight in the Cage-Fighting circuit.  Big grin

You are correct, but the boxing achievements of the parady not outweigh the person who they where based on.

Leno had a good joke tonight, apparently Williams hit Tyson below the belt once, which makes you wonder how much higher Mike's voice can get.
