Some Thoughts About The AMS Meeting

Sat Jul 31, 2004 6:18 pm

Will people actually be interested in spotting at AMS or is the main reason for going to ams the peep shows and the AMS meeting is a good excuse for that?

I am there for the opportunity to spot and photograph the aircraft.

I actually wanna stay away from peep shows to be honest, kinda sad?

Cheers,

It's a meeting for all things to do with aviation, and the social side is to catch up with friends and people we have spoken to on here.

If some of us want to partake in the other attractions of Amsterdam as something on the side, I don't see a problem with that, but it wont affect anyone who doesn't want to do it. That is more likely to be on Friday night before most of us arrive.

I'm not that interested, but might go along just for fun as I've been to Amsterdam more than 10 times and never seen a show...

Anyway, I dont know, we shall see how we all feel about it at the time.

I personally would be more interested in spotting and drinking and like Ben says, catching up with friends etc.. if there was time to pop into town so i could post some illegal substances to my house, bonus, if not.. oh well lol

I'm just looking forward to meeting a.nutters in real life - see if there as bad as they seem ! Also hoping somebody will teach how to take aircraft pics properly ! I lived in AMS for a year in my youth, so I kind of did all the "attractions" already.

I think some people seem to have a few hang up's about Amsterdam.

It is not seedy and dirty as some seem to think and the red light area is actually one of the most popular tourist attractions in the city.

I've only been a couple of times, but each time the red light area was full of tourists walking through "just having a look".

It's one of those curiosity things, if you have never been and just "heard" about it, you build up all these images in your mind, and probably imagine a seedy dirty street with loads of dirty seedy men, but once you've seen it for yourself you find (well I did) that those images completely wrong and it is actually quite a pretty area and has a couple of good bars too.

I think if this map is correct, i might be sick of one particular restaurant after the weekend.

As for everything else, i'm not bothered. I'll go with the flow. It's more the people im with than were we are.

I would agree with MYT there. I am not planning to go anywhere in particular, although I will stay away from going into those corny strip clubs.

For me:

During daytime = spotting at AMS
In the evening = smoking pot, drinking beer and enjoy some good adult entertainment.

This pic gives a pretty good impression about images you may have in mind about the Netherlands, being either right or wrong. Big grin

Ditto Kaz,

I may be a Dutchman, but that doesn't mean I fancy all the filthy places in Amsterdam. In fact I'm ashamed of it. I'd like to avoid the red light district or activities related to that and coffeeshops at any cost.
