Woman's Dying Wish: Bush Defeated
Loved Ones Asked To Donate To Democratic Cause

MIAMI BEACH, Fla. -- A South Florida woman who died this week had an unusual last request. Instead of flower or contributions in her name to a charity, she asked those who loved her to try to make sure President George W. Bush is not re-elected.

Aw, isn't that sweet?

.... But really, who cares? And I certainly hope that those nay-sayers who claim there's no bias in the media, can honestly accept this little gem of an article..... "Look! Even dying old ladies hate Bush!"

Yikes....

In the grand scheme of things...

...she's going to be a belch in some worm's conversation by the time of the election, and her descendents wont even remember her name a few generations from now-- so why squander your last wish on such an idiotic statement?  Yeah sure

Quite an effective statement based on the amount of discussion it is stirring up. This isn't the first old-timer to make such a request. There seems to be quite a few over the last year or so that I've read about.

I bet her gesture strirred up a few Democrats that would have otherwise sat on the fence.

Vari88.

At her age no doubt that she was raised an F.D.R. democrat, and experienced his presidency first hand. From the Great Depression and WWII, and that was followed on by another strong democrat Truman.

However, those types of democrats do not generally exist these days, since the 1960's the party has become what you mockingly describe as "Hippy, cop hating", but I do not you left out pot smoking.

And those teenagers who started to change the party back in the 1960's are now turning into the senior statesmen for it. Remember that the generation who grew up in the 1960's greatest achievement was crashing the gates at a rock concert in New York. Which is by definition a pathetic generational highpoint, as opposed to their parents that won a world war, and the current generation, who have/or are in the process of liberating the people of three countries, and fighting terrorism.

Hopefully when some of today's generation, who reject the ideas of the 1960's start gaining some of the leadership positions in the democratic party, then we will start seeing the party return from the far left position it now occupies.

There was a guy in '96 who did the same thing: he wanted, as his dying wish, for Dole to defeat Clinton. It didn't happen.

This lady has a much better chance to see hwer dying wish happen.

Hopefully when some of today's generation, who reject the ideas of the 1960's start gaining some of the leadership positions in the democratic party, then we will start seeing the party return from the far left position it now occupies.

"Far left"? Are you mad? Who signed NAFTA? GATT? Welfare Reform? It wasn't a republican president!

What constitutes "far left" anyhow? Anyone that opposes the war in Iraq? Name a "far-left" politician and whate role they play in the leadership of the democratic party.

I assume you're referring to Kuwait, Afghanistan and Iraq when you talk about wars of liberation. Kuwait I'll agree with, but we went to Afghanistan to shut down the Taliban, then got distracted by a war of choice in Iraq, resulting in a resurgence of the Taliban.

The debacle in Iraq has not reduced the number Al Qaeda terrorists, and more likely has contributed to their numbers, while costing close to 1000 US servicemen their lives and many thousands more serious injury. Not to mention the upwards of $150 BILLION spent thus far - all borrowed money to boot. And you somehow consider this to be a success for your supposedly "mature" republican party? It would be funny were it not so tragic.

I agree with you, we won't see a great Democratic president for a while, but you also left out that we haven't had a REAL republican president since Reagan... Bush and Little Bush haven't been presidents, they've been jokes...

I think it's time to take out the trash and get some decent politicians, all I see is talk and no action.

Some of you need to update your version of "Far Left". This is most interesting indeed: http://www.politicalcompass.org

More specifically look at the 'US Primaries 2004'

By the way, I went to the Kerry rally in Grand Rapids today, It was great, the crowd was over 20,000 people, which is the largest turnout for any candidate in Grand Rapids ever, which is extraordinary because West Michigan is one of the most conservative Republican areas in the state. It should be an interesting election.

Who signed NAFTA? GATT? Welfare Reform? It wasn't a republican president!

I am aware that Clinton signed those peices of legislation. NAFTA over the objections of just about every member of his party in Congress, who did not vote for it and I also note that Clinton on January 9th 1996 in fact vetoed the welfare reform bill passed out of the House and Senate conference commitee. He then attempted to passify those pushing the reform bill by approving executive orders attempting to tighten up state elibilty laws. The problem there is that they could have been repealed by him at any time.....say when he got what he wanted.

but you also left out that we haven't had a REAL republican president since

Nope didn't leave that out, wasn't germanin to the discussion.

But claiming that there hasn't been a great president since Reagan like claiming the democrates weren't able to follow Kennedy with a great president, Johnson and Carter definately not filling that bill.
