Was in London today, and amazed at the numbers of Americans! It seems that this year we have a real bumper crop of USA visitors.
Some (I admit to resorting to stereotyping) I didn't expect to see and hear. Families from the mid and southern US with accents to match. Huge numbers of younger Americans too, travelling in groups. And more than a few older people doing the independent traveller thing on their own. One guy I chatted to in an elevator at LHR
T1 had come with a rucksack, credit card and what he stood up in. He was in his fifties and planned to do it as it came to him rather than book a vacation. First thing I did was turn him away from the Heathrow Express and its scandalous charges.
I know we get lots of Americans here, and we in turn send our tourists to Orlando by the million, but this summer the numbers coming here seem well up.
Lead me not into temptation, I can find my own way there...
