Bin Laden hints major assassination

By Bill Gertz
THE WASHINGTON TIMES

U.S. intelligence officials say a high-profile political assassination, triggered by the public release of a new message from Osama bin Laden, will lead off the next major al Qaeda terrorist attack, The Washington Times has learned.

The assassination plan is among new details of al Qaeda plots disclosed by U.S. officials familiar with intelligence reports who, speaking on condition of anonymity, said the killing could be carried out against a U.S. or foreign leader either in the United States or abroad.

The officials mentioned Saudi Arabia and Yemen, two nations that are working with the United States in the battle against al Qaeda, as likely locales for the opening assassination.

The planning for the attacks to follow involves "multiple targets in multiple venues" across the United States, one official said.

The new details of al Qaeda's plans were found on a laptop computer belonging to arrested al Qaeda operative Muhammad Naeem Noor Khan of Pakistan.

"We're talking about planning at the screwdriver level," one official said. "It is very detailed."

Khan was arrested July 13 in Lahore, Pakistan, along with Ahmed Khalfan Ghailani, a Tanzanian who was indicted in the 1998 U.S. Embassy bombings in Africa and was on the FBI's list of most-wanted terrorists.

U.S. and allied counterterrorism officials are pursuing leads on other terrorists based on the data from Khan's seized laptop. At least one arrest in Britain has been made so far, and others are expected, the officials said.
Additionally, U.S. intelligence officials said they think that several al Qaeda terrorists already in the United States are part of the plot, although their identities and locations are not known.

The targets, in addition to the financial institutions in New York, Washington and Newark, N.J., that have been the subject of public warnings, include such economic-related targets as oil and gas facilities with a view toward disrupting the November election.

"The goal of the next attack is twofold: to damage the U.S. economy and to undermine the U.S. election," the official said. "The view of al Qaeda is 'anybody but Bush.' "

Rest of the Article is Here

"The view of al Qaeda is 'anybody but Bush.'" Hmm, where have I heard that before?

uuuuhhh. Anything But Bush? But Bush haven't been in power all the time. What about all the other attacks they have made when Bush wasn't in the office. It doesn't matter who's in the office. The terrorists wont stop anyway.

There is a reason Bin Laden can't stand him. If someone had been trying to kill you for the better part of 2 1/2 years wouldn't you want him gone? Especially when his opponent wants to fight a kinder, gentler, and more sympathetic war on terrorism.

"Anyone but Bush" is not just an OBL thing. It's a psychic thought-pulse emanating from the 4 billion or so people on this planet that don't live in the USA. Or haven't you noticed ?

I think the key words are, "trying to". If I were bin Laden, I'd be sporting "Re-Elect Bush in 2004" buttons and have my cave decked out in GW Bush relection paraphernalia.

Isn't it actually the other way around? Doesn't terrorist attack shortly before the elections with "effort to undermine the elections" resulting in increased atmosphere of fear among the population actually increase the chances of Dubya getting reelected?
Neither Bush nor the quoted intelligence "official" is THAT stupid not to know it.

You've just got to love how some of our resident right-wingers here always manage to twist whatever it was Kerry said. Tell me, Phxairfan, where was it that Kerry said he was going to deal with the terrorists in a 'kinder, gentler and more sympathetic way'?

Now we go to an extreme, through innuendo, by B757300. Now, if you support Kerry, YOU SUPPORT AL QAEDA!! You're a terrorist-loving wimp, who doesn't want to get rid of terrorism.

B757300, you have reached an all-time low. I don't know of a single American who doesn't want to get rid of Al Qaeda, and that includes me; and that includes John Kerry and John Edwards.

If you don't believe that, then I guess the truth is out: you think fully 50 percent of those who vote are somehow traitors. Why don't you just admit that that's what you think and believe?

B757300, you've said some idiotic and downright stupid things in the past, but now I realize that your head is shoved so far up your rectum that you need a window in your stomach to see where you're going.

Do you really think Bn Laden will magically stop hating America if Kerry wins? That minutes after Kerry secures the votes to lock up the electoral college, al Jazeera will air the latest bin Laden tape in which he states that "now that John Kerry is in power, America will never be attacked again?" If you believe that, you're much dumber than I ever thought you were. Bin Laden, al Qaeda and other Islamic fundamentalists hate our way of life and what America stands for, no matter who's in power. They hate the notion that a woman can exercise her potential just as effectively as a man does, they hate the notion that all have (or should have) equal access to education, and most importantly they despise the fact that we're currently the only hegemon standing.

Further, let's really examine that article. The attack "could be carried out against either a US or foreign leader either in the US or abroad." For someone who defended Bush for dismissing a vague PDB that had the title "Bin Laden intends to attack the United States," you're sure putting a fair bit of credence in an, at least, equally ambiguous statement. So we've established that sometime a person in power is going to be assassinated somewhere on planet Earth. That's what I call precise intelligence!

Lastly, let me venture into the realm of the speculative. Why WOULDN'T Bin Laden want Bush reelected? In his tenure, Bush has distanced the US from its allies, has spread our military forces thin, and has engendered anti-American sentiments across the globe and, as a result, al Qaeda's recruitment hasn't suffered as the organization spreads. Sounds to me like Dubya's been pretty GOOD for business.

why would they make this public ?

What are you thinking? President Geoge W. Bush is the person Al-Qaeda and those thugs hate the most. The President has driven them out of their safety-net in Afghanistan, he has taken a supplyer of Nuclear and Biological Weapons for Bin Laden off the market, and he has exposed the plans of the Iranian government to build a nuclear bomb for their terrorist friends. Now if Gore had won the election, he wouldn't have gone after Bin Laden unless the United Nations and the Taliban had approved it. He wouldn't have gotten rid of a man who had ties to Al-Qaeda and harbored weapons of mass destruction, he wouldn't have exposed the Iranians for what they are.

Matthew

That's where your dead wrong. They hate Americans, period. They hate all of us, not just George Bush. You're giving Bush, as usual, way too much credit. It doesn't matter WHO is president, they hate us just the same.

he has taken a supplyer of Nuclear and Biological Weapons for Bin Laden off the market

And pray tell, who might that be (like I don't already know what you're going to say, even though it's been disproven over and over again).

Now if Gore had won the election, he wouldn't have gone after Bin Laden unless the United Nations and the Taliban had approved it.

Partisan conjecture on your part. None of us have a fucking clue what would have happened, and your self-induced GOP superiority on it just makes you look like a damn fool. Gore probably would not have started a fool's war in Iraq, that's for sure, and billions of dollars, and a thousand good American would still be alive, and our reputation in the world might still be intact.

So Matthew, thanks for showing yourself to be nothing more than a sop for the Republican Party. It's been very enlightening. Go back to talking about the Yankees, something you're at least halfway smart at.

Driven out of their safety net in Afghanistan ???
The very large majority of them are still doing well, thanks.
The few losses they have had have been more than largely compensated.
Afghanistan, despite what Rumsfeld says, is still a Taliban area, except in and around the two major cities.

Taken a supplier of N and B weapons out of the market ???
Supplier had no stock for sale and no production planned.

The plans of the Iranian government ???
Why do you think Halliburton is doing well in IRAN ?

A man who had ties to AQ and harbored WMD ???
You must have suffered from lethargy in the last 467 days, in which case you are excusable.

You do not what Gore would have done, probably himself could only assume what he would have done.

Do you wear sunglasses at night ?

"The view of al Qaeda is 'anybody but Bush."

Well no crap. It's for the same reasons that N. Korea's leader, AND Fidel Castro endorse John Kerry...because they know he won't do shit in the foreign policy arena. Think about it, if you wanted to get away with trouble, wouldn't you desire someone who won't care? They KNOW that Bush is the only one who'll give em hell. I think this is a pretty obvious concept...

What is Dubya doing about the threat from North Korea ??? Last I heard he had to take troops from there to fight for his oil in Iraq ... Don't worry about Fidel, if he is voting in Florida it won't count anyway

ROTFLMAO. If you mean "won't do shig in the foreign policy arena", you mean start unnecessary wars; alienate our best friends; piss off 9/10th of the world, and do whatever the hell we please without any thought to the rest of the world, then you're right.

If you mean what you're thinking, you're the one full of crap, DeltaGuy. Amazing that conservatives like yourself actually believe this nonsense that Kerry would hand over our defense to the UN. Funny, I've never known any president to do so, so why is Kerry going to?

Fact is, you guys are so full of shit on this issue, and so bereft of any common sense when it comes to defending Bush, you automatically turn on the other candidate, even though he's just as loyal an American as you, me, Bush or anyone else. What a load of garbage.

Yeah, good one!!!

Newsflash! They hate all Americans...and those who are not their own or do not agree with them, but mostly they hate Americans and Jews/Israel. As for the safety net???

Afghanistan is constantly under pressure from the old taliban trying to get power back, and from what I've heard, we only have about 3 thousand troops there... IMAGINE where our current troops are....

Just one thing, which I think gets often confused:

Most Iranians are Shiite muslims.
Al Qaeda are mostly Wahabite Muslims, a very fundamentalist Sunni sect.
Al Qaaeda hates the guts of Shiites because to them they diverted from the true belief.
There is also little love left for Sunni radicals in Iran. Al Qaeda members caught in Iran get hung.
Think about it like Protestants and Catholics during the 16th century.

Well for starters, on one of a.net's many fine parody sites, Concordeboy had, for a few weeks anyway, a quote in German calling for the slaying of all Muslims. As I'm heading to bed, I invite you to search back through a.net's archives to find any that might not have been deleted by mods. At any rate, something more to share

Bullcrap, you made that statement, and you can attempt to back it up.

Besides that, using one individual's view does not justify your statement, because you said it in general terms.

So basically, I see no way that you can back up or justify that ignorant statement.

Alright, NWA. Ask and you shall receive. Allow me to help out by providing a small sampling. Of course, I'm quite sure that no matter how many I provide it "won't be enough..."

http://www.airliners.net/discussions/non_aviation/read.main/555448/
reply 15: It's time we start playing with our nukes in Iraq. Kill em all - there is no such thing as an innocent Iraqi

reply 20: I absolutely agree 100% with Cadet985. Nuke the entire region. It would bring a lot of shit to an end. And don't anyone dare tell me that would be politically incorrect when there are Iraqis over there chopping the heads off of innocent American civilians.

http://www.airliners.net/discussions/non_aviation/read.main/555889/
reply 2: If Bush had any balls, he'll have ordered the anihilation of an Iraqi city by B-52 or B-1 to commence within 48 hours, and no warning.

In later replies, a user suggests WHICH city and another user argues that it might be more effective to simply shell that city with artillery rounds. Now mind you again, these are only a few of the most glaring ones. Others equally or more offensive have been removed by a.net's crew due to the vitriol they contained.
