South Korea Planning New Capital City

Fri Aug 13, 2004 10:34 am

Just got spotted this news article - pretty interesting, all told.

http://www.cbc.ca/story/world/national/2004/08/12/moving_capital040812.html

I'm somewhat surprised the Korean government isn't planning a referendum on the issue and, at a $45 billion development cost that will probably increase, if I were a South Korean taxpayer I'd be interested in a referendum on it. Nonetheless, it seems like the move's in the best interest of all.
South Carolina - too small to be its own country, too big to be a mental asylum.

A Japanese friend of mine just told me that Japan is also planning for a new capital, but I've never heard of the news elsewhere. Malaysia's new adminstrative centre in Putrajaya is very much underway, with most government ministries have already moved from KL. There's still no official words to change the capital to Putrajaya, but I'm sensing it will definitely happen within the next 10 years.

Hopefully, the new South Korean capital will not be disliked the way Brasilila seemed to me to be by the people in Brazil.
