Coalition Forces Wing Al-Sadr

Fri Aug 13, 2004 1:30 pm

Well that boil on the butt of Iraq, cleric Moqtada Al-Sadr has been wounded in the fighting around Najaf, according to the spokesman for the cleric. No word on how serious the injuries are, hopefully for the worse IMHO.

Most of the other claims of the fighting on boths sides in this article I would take with a grain of salt.

Great news, just waiting for the breaking news release that he's dead........hope it comes.

Anyhow, I wonder how he got injured......shot or shrapnel from an explosion......

if he was shot, why did they stop shooting?

Sorry Jarek.

I just don't like people that are trying to get our troops killed.

Especially when the latter is there trying to do good.

I just wanted to make the point that this kind of attitude can be compared with the attitude of the Iraqis expressing their happiness after successfully attacks on coalition forces.

It's just sad.

"Well that boil on the butt of Iraq..."

Nice try to twist the facts, L-188!! He's not the boil on the butt of Iraq, he's the boil on the butt of the US and US's plans for Iraq!!!

"No word on how serious the injuries are, hopefully for the worse IMHO."

First it was Saddam wanting to kill al-Sadr, now it is the US. Funny in a way how this whole situation has gone out of hand in less than a year time.

"I just don't like people that are trying to get our troops killed.

That's perfectly understandable, L-188. But just as you don't like your troops getting killed, there is also a bunch of people that don't like their people getting killed in their own country by foreign occupiers, for the mere reason those occupiers don't want to give these people an important role in Iraq's future.

"Especially when the latter is there trying to do good."

So ignoring the opinions and desires for future Iraq of a Shiite majority is doing good in your eyes? That's sounds an awfully lot like Saddam himself!

Schoenorama, can we at least agree that we are happy if the guy gets taken out of commission and we wouldn't shed a tear if he were to be capped? Is that fair?

RaginMav,

L-188, B757300, NWA742 are happy if Al-Sadr is dead.
Iraqi crowd is happy when the foreigners are dead.

I can not see much of the difference.

You guys saying that you hope he's dead, you make me absolutely sick, your just like the Iraqi's, or even Osama Bin Laden himself when they hear that Americans are killed.

The people want his armed thugs out of Najaf. The people want the Americans out of Najaf. If getting rid of him is the best way to accomplish both these goals, then so be it. I am not going to cry a tear if he ends up dying. I would much rather see him arrested and sent to court, since there is a warrant out for his arrest. But of course him violently resisting an Iraqi judges warrant is a noble pursuit isnt it.

It isn't.

Ideally you want him arrested alive. Dead he becomes a martyr, and those are very powerful figures in the Islamic world. Al Sadr dead would mean a lot more Americans injured or killed as the violence would escalate even further.

The problem is Whitehatter, is that he is allready a Martyer.

A very inappropriate comparison, but it didn't take South Africa killing Nelson Mandela to make him a martyr.

Just throwing him in prison for 20 years did that.

The reason Mandela wasn't executed by the South African state was precisely because they didn't want a martyr. That would have caused an uprising that would have left millions dead.

Treason was punishable by the death penalty in the old racist South Africa, but the Court was 'persuaded' by Pretoria to only hand down life sentences.

Al Sadr is going to be more trouble dead than alive. Moslems will fanatically follow a martyr into the flames. It's in their very nature, and considered one of the acts that will get them into heaven.

Throw him in the nick and he's powerless. That's what he fears the most.
