Attn. Terrorists: One Word: "Microsoft"

Sat Aug 21, 2004 2:47 pm

Put CD into computer. Media Player opens all by itself (wow!). Media Player says, "Friggin' - this CD requires analog playback, would you like me to play this CD or just skip the whole show and stay in digital mode?"
So I say, "Play the CD."
Media Player says, "Okay, you're now in Analog mode. Have fun, pal."

Play CD,
Take CD out,
Put different CD in -

Media player says, "Hey there - this CD requires digital playback, but you're in analog mode so you suck and I can't play it. Sorry!"

Push button which says, "More Information"

More information consists of:
"Windows Media Player is having a problem reading your CD, you d*mb*ss."

So, I go to the big Help button and most of the help is about HP products, not about Windows. So, I find the Windows "support" button and click it.

I have two options: search a database, ask a newsgroup. Yay!

The database is useless. No matter what you put in, you have the following results:
"Do something not even related to whatever you put in,"
"Buy an upgrade to whatever you put in,"
"Read those two options in whatever language you choose."

So I click the "newsgroup" option.

I get 5,000,000 options for everything from adult toys to politics (same thing, I realize, but I digress...)

I click on a group which seems vaguely suggestive of what I'm looking for.

Message on screen:
"I'm sorry, loser but you aren't a member of MSN or whatever they call this thing nowadays! Try again!"

Just one question:

If this is a help question... I never heard of Media Player REQUIRING to play the CD's in Digital or Analog. It all depends mostly in your system itself and not on each CD.

Eitherway, WMP should be able to play any CD you have in Analog mode, but version 8 will not play visualizations while in Analog. And, if are really having trouble, then use another Media Player sofware, like Winamp or iTunes.

Or for a less radical change.

iTunes is a great media player, it came with my iPod and it has great featuresm and it is much easier to organize music with than Windows Media Player. Download it and try it out, you've got nothing to lose.
