Talk About Waffles From The Bush Admin.

Sat Aug 28, 2004 3:24 pm

I have been searching for these two statements for weeks and tonight I found them........Read them first....

Words right from Colin Powells mouth while in Cairo on Feb 24 2001

Source United States Defense Department Daily Briefing

"We will always try to consult with our friends in the region so that they are not surprised and do everything we can to explain the purpose of our responses. We had a good discussion, the Foreign Minister and I and the President and I, had a good discussion about the nature of the sanctions -- the fact that the sanctions exist -- not for the purpose of hurting the Iraqi people, but for the purpose of keeping in check Saddam Hussein's ambitions toward developing weapons of mass destruction. We should constantly be reviewing our policies, constantly be looking at those sanctions to make sure that they are directed toward that purpose. That purpose is every bit as important now as it was ten years ago when we began it. And frankly they have worked. He has not developed any significant capability with respect to weapons of mass destruction. He is unable to project conventional power against his neighbors. So in effect, our policies have strengthened the security of the neighbors of Iraq, and these are policies that we are going to keep in place, but we are always willing to review them to make sure that they are being carried out in a way that does not affect the Iraqi people but does affect the Iraqi regime's ambitions and the ability to acquire weapons of mass destruction, and we had a good conversation on this issue"
>>>>>>>>>>

From Meet the Press with Tim Russert 9/16/2001

Found on the Whitehouse.gov site

MR. RUSSERT: Saddam Hussein, your old friend, his government had this to say: "The American cowboy is rearing the fruits of crime against humanity." If we determine that Saddam Hussein is also harboring terrorists, and there's a track record there, would we have any reluctance of going after Saddam Hussein?

VICE PRES. CHENEY: No.

MR. RUSSERT: Do we have evidence that he's harboring terrorists?

VICE PRES. CHENEY: There is--in the past, there have been some activities related to terrorism by Saddam Hussein. But at this stage, you know, the focus is over here on al-Qaida and the most recent events in New York. Saddam Hussein's bottled up, at this point, but clearly, we continue to have a fairly tough policy where the Iraqis are concerned.

MR. RUSSERT: Do we have any evidence linking Saddam Hussein or Iraqis to this operation?

VICE PRES. CHENEY: No.

*************************************

Now if memory serves me right when a member of the presidents cabinet speaks do they not speak for the President in support of the the Presidents policys.......If so the above comments indicate the administration believed that Saddam H was contained.....not a threat to his neighbors......had no significant capibility in regards to developing WMD and then Dick Cheney says he was bottled up and then says......There is no evidence that SH had anything to do with 9/11......

How is it that by the 2003 State of the Union Saddam H was able to re-develop and posses WMDs in large quantitys........I thought we had him under check........The fact about it Bush was HELL BENT on war with Iraq.....The Bush administration had blatantly ignored reports that proved otherwise. Ill bet that the DOD spy case that broke today is related to the Iraq war...

I think its time the Bush administation to pull the maple syrup out of the cupboard because there is waffle over their face.

Rsmith, you've hit your limit on worthless posts for the week. You seem no better than another veteran board user, ScottysAir...and like him, "it's make with the bannings from a.net!".

I believe the term "waffling" is more used to describe the dems, specifically, John Kerry's Waffle house...check the tshirt. You sure know how to take some article you find and go "see, see!!!" all day. Keep blowing your horn man, noone's listening.

Well lets take a look at your last few topic starters. The only one I see that isn't politically centered is the coffins at Costco (I had a hot dog there today) thread.

And out of the political ones, only the vote for fav conservative and the NJ Gov ones, I would catagorize as not being anti-conservative/republican/Bush.

Feel free to tell me where I am wrong with my analysis that you have a one track train of thought based on this pattern of posting.

"Isn't the constant anti-bush crap getting old."

Not really, it isn't November 2nd, yet. And Kerry's getting his fair share of derision on the all conservative-bloc WABC-AM-NY and other 'right' radio stations, as well as the supposedly 'fair and balanced' Fox News. It's become basically ANTI-Kerry, all the time in these forums-it would make your heart soar to listen to those programs. I actually agree with some of it but they're taking it to outlandish extremes these days; not that Air America and their ilk aren't doing the same thing to Bush.
One fundamental truth all of these observations like the above are on to is that Bush, far from addressing the core of The War On Terror he so loves to point to, actually DROPPED the ball with respect to this war by going after the wrong enemy in the list of priorities. The concerted effort to oust Saddam and ATTEMPT (the operative word) to stabilize Iraq, not to mention rebuild it, was needed to root out and destroy the Al Queda leadership STILL eluding us in either Afghanistan or northern Pakistan. It was irrational, in light of the flawed intelligence, to switch priorities and charge into Iraq while bin Laden went free. What were they really thinking here?

"I think we have all figured out that you don't think objectively."

Talk about the pot calling the kettle black. Are you guys all so mesmerized by the Bush gung-ho, go get'em mentality, that you can ignore the simple fact that he's botched The War On Terror by NOT pressing ahead with the pursuit of Al Queda, whose terror capacity might now be all but eliminated had a comparable effort to Iraq been mounted to destroy it wherever it resides? I'm no Kerry fan but Bush blew it big time by not keeping his priorities straight. A quote from a heartbroken Mom in a N.Y. Times article posted on the AW&ST website sums up a lot of the disgust I feel...

(Mrs. Cuming smiled gamely, and her eyes, puffy from tears and no sleep, brightened momentarily. Her grief has become commingled with anger over a war she does not support, and she is full of indignation and blame for the president and the events that landed her son in Iraq.

"I don't think it's fair that so many mothers, fathers, siblings have to go through what I'm going through," she said. "Is it about oil? I don't know what this war is for. We don't want anyone else to die in this useless, stupid war.")

Not unlike with the Vietnam mess we'd all like to forget, what EXACTLY are they dying for? If they were fighting Al Queda, we'd at least know WHY!  Angry  Crying

Mmmm, I love waffles. Especially belgian waffles, with lots of nearly-caramelized sugar on them, and lots of syrup. A breakfast that can't be beat. Speaking of which, I wonder if Phuket Air serves waffles for breakfast on their flights? (hint, hint  Wink/being sarcastic  Wink/being sarcastic)

Oh, and the State Department had frequent disagreements with Bush during the preparations for war, so they don't always speak for them.

For Republicans to say that Bush doesn't flip-flop on the issues is just wrong. Bush is a politician. Politicans try to appeal to the masses. And they do that by taking multiple sides, and trying to disguise it. This is not something unique to one party. They all do it. Let's just accept that and move on.

I am getting very sick of it, but that's what American politics has become. It's a very dirty game. And the democrats have decided (and rightly so) that taking the moral high ground just doesn't work. So, they'll hit back. Michael Moore is the democratic Rush Limbaugh. I don't like it, but the democrats have to show that they're not going to take it quietly anymore.

Wow, is a more severe indictment of this government even possible?  Wow!

Bush and company invented the "waffle" label. Therefore they should be ready to be held to the same standard.

I remember one major waffle of Bush's. In 2000, Bush said that if elected, he would not allow U.S. military forces to engage in "nation building."

Blowing Iraq up, then installing infrastructure and then installing a government and writing a constitution doesn't count?

So go on and talk about Kerry's "waffles". None compare to Bush's super-waffle that has turned America and its place in the world, completely inside-out.

I am going to forgive him for that one because nobody in 2000 could have predicted the war on radical islam and it's supporters that started with their unprovoked and dastardly attack on 9/11/01.

He didn't choose to nation build, the world situation forced it.

Yes L188...of course you would say that. So Kerry can't change his mind because the situation or available information changes, but Bush can?

And yes, the world was able and willing to deal with terrorism. I chose to call it that rather than pin it on "radical Islam" because Timothy McVeigh proved to us that this sort of thing isn't restricted to our Islamic friends.

An appropriate action in response to 9/11 was already in place in Afghanistan when Bush decided to invade Iraq. So I don't consider them to be related.

Many of us understand that the intent to invade Iraq was present in the Bush administration even before 9/11. Bush assembled what can easily be described as a "war cabinet" with a primary goal of figuring out a way to gain support to invade Iraq. Why? Because Iraq had adopted the Euro as hard currency.

The US was (and is) losing it's stranglehold on the world by imposing and sustaining the US dollar as the only hard currency. This threatens financial collapse when countries all over the world cease stockpiling American dollars in bank accounts to fund oil purchases.

Right now, Iraq and Saudi Arabia are the only places exclusively trading oil in American currency. Any coincidence that there is a strong (almost overwhelming) US presence there?

Waffle, waffle, waffle....

Well if you are commenting on Kerry's "I voted for it before I voted against it" I would argue that there wasn't any major event that happened between voting for it and then against it.

Airplay: I don't know about any link between the dollar and Iraq, but there has been talk from OPEC about considering (or threatening, depending on your PoV) pricing oil in euros instead of dollars. If that does happen, it will likely cause some sort of financial crisis for sure.

Would make sense... The oil-producing countries are importing more from the EU than from the USA anyway (like almost everybody else), so they wouldn´t have to deal with conversion and currency fluctuations as much...  Big thumbs up

I didn't think of that. And you're right Klaus.

Also, the euro has been a far safer and stabler currency for some time now, ever since it got over its initial teething problems. Many governments have also started converting a portion of their reserves from the dollar to the euro.

Besides, what great advantage or incentive do OPEC have to continue quoting in dollars? Unless they conclude that a switchover will not bring any benefits or that it will result in some sort of adverse American reaction, it does sound like a good idea.
