Kids Back At School = Traffic Chaos

Thu Sep 02, 2004 4:59 pm

Well it's that time of year again - after 7 weeks of glorious, stress free drives to work, the kids are back at school in Nottingham.

I had the pleasure of a normal 20 minute journey taking an hour this morning, as the soccer mums in their 4x4s with little Jilly and Johnny in the passenger seats caused queues half an hour long, parked on main roads blocking one side of the road while the glorious little kiddy-winks run out into the road unattended to get in the car, almost causing accidents.....

It's that time of year when I start having to leave half an hour early just to get into work on time...

I personally hate the little "rats" and I cant wait until there all back at school, seeing them running around causing havoc in the area, I hate all of them..
School summer holidays should be 3 weeks, not 6...I dont even get 2 weeks a year off so why should they get more..
Its not the fall that kills u, its the sudden stop at the end..

Haha - my sister said exactly the same thing - she has a 6 year old who's been driving her completely nuts all summer !

Traffic's cleared up nicely down here, now that most of the holiday-makers have buggered off home.

LOL  Smile

I left for work at 08.50am this morning, and unfortunately had to turn back as I had left my phone at home. I live a street away from a primary school. Like you, NoelG, I forgot the schools started back. Recently, my trip along the M62 took me 20 minutes. Today, it was just over 50 minutes - I arrived at work 15 minutes late.

These stupid cows cannot park their bloody 4x4s, let alone drive them,

Why can't everyone just catch the bus, it would be so much easier.

I the good old days (not many years ago) kids either walked, cycled or to the bus to school. At least in most European countries. Anyone know why we have had this change in the number of kids being dropped off at school  Confused

Also here in Jerusalem hell broke loose this Tuesday when school started again. Traffic jams full of very tempered people! Quite scary with every one carrying weapons  Nuts

parents are very protective of children (rightly so) and high profile child kidnap/murder cases only reinforce this. Parents feel that they are exposing their children to unnecessary risks by letting them walk or cycle and school buses are not as common as they once were.

I can certainly remember walking / cycling to school / college although the surprise of a lift home was always a welcome one.

Only because the ghastly gutter-trash UK media paints them that picture. Actual attacks against children are probably going down, owing to the awareness that kids now have about not talking to strangers etc.

Canberra,
tell me about it!

When I was a kid, I used to walk to school (it took me like 5 minutes) and now people living in the same area that I used to, are driving their kids to the same school in the morning  Insane

Yep its stupid. Occasionally I drive to College but thats only if i'm late, otherwise i'll walk. Quite a few people walk to Secondary school here, and alot take the bus back to Bristol, but there are still cars around and it does make driving more difficult in such a small town with so many schools.
