In my view, a civilization that was able to travel the stars and would somehow reach earth, would be extremely far more advanced than we are. It would've taken them hundreds of thousands of years to get to the technological point that they would be in.
If they were able to survive hundreds of thousands of years, that would have to mean that they are smart enough to not destroy themselves. This would bring in the fact that they would not be barbaric, and that they must be at a peace state with their whole civilization. In other words, they wouldn't come to destroy us, and the only exception to that is maybe they wanted to use our resources, and move from planet to planet, like locusts.
All this brings the conclusion that there is a much bigger chance that they would be peaceful, and not harmful. Just because there are octillions of planets in the Universe, doesn't mean I don't believe in god. What I think is that maybe all of our religions are misguided, and maybe there is a religion that we haven't discovered that is the truth.
I very much doubt that this is an alien signal, but if it is, then you could imagine one of the greatest discoverys since sliced bread
