Protestor At RNC?

Fri Sep 03, 2004 11:49 am

What happened? A lady just got dragged out of Moadison Square Garden during Bush's speech. What did she say? Any help would be appreciated.

She was holding up a sign that said "Bush Lied People Died". No big deal.

I can just tel you how Schroeder handled a similar situation about two weeks ago.
During a speech concerning economic austerity reforms in former East Germany a woman tried to throw an egg at him. He just ignored the thing and never pressed for persecution.

On the other hand a few months ago a bloke slapped him during a party meeting. This guy (apparently a total looser and blaming Schroeder personaly for the fact that he never got his life in order) was sentenced last week to 6 months jail on probation and a fine.

Fischer got hit by a plastic bag of paint during a speech at a green party convent, where he defended his decision to send German troopsn on the NATO mission to Kosovo. Even though the bag burst his eardrum (which must have hurt like hell) he continued his speech (Though some of his friends who still know him from his wild days in Frankfurt in the 60s, say the assailant was lucky. In the old days Fischer ( who used to be a taxi driver) would have gone down and punched it out with the thrower).

MD11Engineer, this is not a regular speech, but a finale to the GOP convention.

Like the same thing wouldn't have happened with a Kerry protestor at the DNC?

Give me a break.  Insane

Yup, just like the USSR.

Again, do you people actually think that the same sort of thing wouldn't have happened with a protestor acting up at the DNC -- especially why Kerry was speaking?

If a politician is a good speaker, he can involve such a protester or use a witty remark to get around it. He hasn´t to call in the Storm troopers. But if a politician can only recitate some speech he learned previously by rote....

I don´t know if Kerry would be able to handle such a situation nonchalantly, but a good speaker should be able to do it

I saw it...and they've had protesters crashing them every night...I'm shocked that tonight one actually got through while Bush was speaking!

And his speech sucked whale-ass!.... Fear, fear, and more fear!

Dang, I'm disappointed. Based on what some people here have said Bush is planning, I was hoping to have Osama bin Laden hauled out in chains for all to see.

So he gave his bully boys the order to preemptively remove anybody who might cause him to loose his thread ( deer in headlight look)?
I wonder if there will be ANY TV debates between Bush and Kerry.

The protestor must get their practice in. They will have plenty of opportunities to protest over the next 4 years with George W. Bush as the president of the United States  Smile/happy/getting dizzy

Yup, just like the USSR.

Woah!! Did I miss something? They killed the protestor??????

You are a wuss if you think the speech was filled with "fear". I have no fear of anything going on in this world today and neither should anyone else. There is a greater chance of being struck by lightning than getting slaughtered in a terrorist attack.

Yes you do.. just by simply saying you don't! That's like the actors who run around saying 'I'm not gay'...like they need to prove it or something... oh you have fear alright. You have it bad.

"Like the same thing wouldn't have happened with a Kerry protestor at the DNC?"

You're right, it WOULD have! The question is WHY? it wasn't disrupting the speech, though some might find it distracting. It's not the same as if she tried to yell over the speech, she was just carrying a sign? Was it that she and the others came in with false credentials, like those that shouted at Cheney the night before? Maybe then I somewhat see it but if simply for that sign, no. I'm absolutely in favor of a crackdown on anarchists, like that creep who beat up the cop, outside but not on simple protestors, as long as they're peaceful. Perhaps I missed something, there.

I guess it has to do with the fact, that if they can't even secure their own convention, how the hell are they going to protect the US?

Also, was it just me, or was this convention all about slamming Kerry? I read somewhere that Kerry was mentioned 4 times as often as Bush was mentioned at the DNC. So much for overcoming the request to focus on the issues instead of focusing on the opponent.

Personally, I am just waiting and hoping that during one of the debates (there probably will be two of them) one of the moderators will ask Kerry a similar hypothetical question that Bernard Shaw asked Dukakis in the 2nd Presidential debate back in '88:

"If you were President when 9/11 occurred, what would you have done?"

Unlike Kitty Dukakis rape and murder question of '88; the events of 9/11 actually happenned.

How Kerry responds to the above-question will determine whether it helps his chances of being elected or it could very well sink his chances of getting elected much like Dukakis' answer to Shaw's question sank his 1988 Presidential bid.

Yeah. According to the protestors it was payback for our protesting at the DNC. Only thing is, I don't recall over 1,000 people being arrested and any of us rudely barging in on Kerry's speech. Must be a little thing called respect or something.

Will the 3 debates just be for the Presidential candidates only or will it be 2 Presidential debates with one Vice-Presidential debate taking place between them; similar to the past 4 Presidential elections?

Actually, it was that anyone who wanted to protest at the DNC couldn't because they had JOBS and work to do. Imagine that.  Wink/being sarcastic
