Help, My Mom Is In A Lot Of Stress.

Tue Sep 07, 2004 9:49 pm

Hello everyone,

My mother is in a lot of stress right now. She's under a lot of pressure, and it's very sad because I love her and I feel so bad. I need help on what I can do to help make her feel better. So could anyone please give me ideas?

Have her know you care, that´s the most important thing. And try to help out where you can; You can´t solve all problems in the world, but it´s already a big help if she knows she is not fighting alone and she´s appreciated.

Do something simple.

Give her a cup of tea out of the blue - preferably herbal (peppermint). It's very calming. Recommend she takes a herbal supplement - namely Ginseng, which has extraordinary calming effects. Be calm yourself while around her - calm is infectious.

Most importantly - hug her - lots. Human physical contact is very reassuring.

What's she stress over? Step 1 is identifying the issue. You don't want to treat outward manifestations of an underlying problem.

Physical activity can be a terrific stress-reliever. You might want to suggest that she start some sort of exercise program, even something as simple as walking for a half-hour a day might be enough.

Yeh, my mum is the same at the moment. My dad has come to visit me for a few days. Shes given up smoking after 25 years doctors orders. Well basically, she nearly threw bleach at my dad the other day. He is being verbally abused the poor bloke. So hes come to visit me to give her some space. I imagine how it feels for her or anyone in that situation as she tried to do it when i was a kid and she left home!
Shes ok though. I live 250 miles away from her and just call her sometimes to tell her how much i love her and that im there for her. I tell her that giving up smoking is the best thing that could have happened to me and that im very proud of her. Makes her feel a lot better, knowing that there are people who do actually care.
Tomorrow dad is going home. Im going to buy him a bulletproof jacket!!

How old is she? Could be menopause. Seriously, my mom went through an early menopause and living with her was HELL! She was ALWAYS TOO HOT and constantly complained during the summers, and she would turn into a flat out biatch. I'm hard headed and I fought back with her, not realizing what she was going through, and we went round and round and round, till finally she went to the doctor and got on hormones.

I second the "Let 'er know you care" line.

Well, First of all KROC, I am NOT IloveBOI, I'm just another Anthony Harding who lives in Boise Idaho, who loves the airport and all of the same hobbies he had...no just kidding around, ya caught me red handed...lol, and I've changed a bunch, so you wont see Darwin Award crap or a million questions about BOI, and I deeply apologize to everyone who experienced my annoying signature, annoying questions, and most of all my hideous username. So sorry to everyone who experienced that...although me checking out the posts on airwhiners.net about me...I just couldn't stop laughing on that website, especially on the posts directed toward me. Man back then I was such a lobsterbrain!

Anyway, thank you for all of your replies. This isn't, however, something small...Her boyfriend has left her, and is really mad at her. My mom owns a buisness, and he being co-owner of it, he's threatening that he's going to shut it down, and she'd lose her job, and he'd move out. She has been running a lot, which has helped. Thank you for all of your replies (except KROC's...jk!).

Unfortunately, you CAN'T tell her this...because it's out of your realm of responsibility and concern.

But if what you said above is true... The #1 thing she needs to do..and do ASAP! Is figured out a way to cut this guy lose! Now that he knows he can use his coming/going gig as a thread...he'll leverage it everytime and anytime he wants to achieve his own selfish means. She needs to start thinking of a future without this guy... it'll be a lot easier on her and you.

Your mom needs to hear this from someone her own age a gf of hers or something. But if she's 'hooked' on this guy.. unfortunately, this is a battle YOU cannot win.

Burn some dried sage. It smells funky at first but it is so calming. I always burn it the night before an exam. Sage is supposed to cleanse the soul of unease. Hope she gets better!

UAL747, I hear you! Only mine couldn't decide if she was menopausal or pregnant! She first announced that she was pregnant. Considering that my dad was long dead and gone - that could only mean one thing! Suffice it to say that I was traumatised when I heard that. A few days later, she tells me that she's not pregnant, just menopausal. Another bit of conversation I didn't need to have with my mother!

Whatever she was or wasn’t during those days, one thing's for sure: she was most definitely "a flat out biatch"!
