How Did Your NFL Team Do On Sunday?

Tue Sep 14, 2004 1:27 am

The Falcons pulled one out with DEFENCE, believe it or not. We held them to 6 points until the last few series, and our D scored a td on an interception return. Mike Vick looked really good in the first half, but we got shut down offensively the second half. 21-19, though, is a win. We'll take it.

Well, it wasn't Sunday, but the Patriots won against Indy 27-24. Next up is Arizona for the Pats.

The Patriots found a way to win in spite of being out matched. THats what champs do...lets see if they can keep it up.. they should handle AZ pretty easily.

The Buffalo Bills snatched defeat from the jaws of victory. New season, same results as last year. Solid defense until the end of the game, and no offense at all. Drew Bledsoe is perhaps the most overrated QB of the last 10 years. Dude is as mobile as a brick wall. Going to be another long season.

It's been what.. 12 years since the Falcons last won out at San Francisco? Heck, I remember that game - Chris Miller at QB with Andre Rison and Deion Sanders - Jerry Glanville on the sidelines accompanied by MC Hammer.

Too bad the Niners aren't in our division anymore, but its always sweet to beat them just to get our own back for all the beatings over the years!

It wasn't pretty, but the Stillers picked up the win over the Rich "How many more tackles before I need hip replacement" Gannon's Raiders. Kudos to Jerome Bettis for the weirdest stat line of yesterday. 5 carries for 1 yard rushing, resulting in 3 TDs. Liked that Maddox didn't seem too plussed by the tie-game situation in the 4th quarter and also liked my first look at Duce Staley since he left USC.

Bettis had an average of 7 inches per carry. Big grin

Good game for the Steelers though, and nice to start out with a win.

Browns won 20-3
Our defense sure looked a lot better than last year. I figured it would be somewhat improved, b/c how much worse than allowing 295 rushing yards to Jamal Lewis can you get?
Plus it's good to finally win an opener, since this is our first Week 1 win in our new franchise history (1999). Hopefully they can build on this momentum.

You said it Sean, I think Glanville jinxed us that year when we beat San Diego, LA, and SANFRAN and he had a party where he had a "California State Championship" Cup made to rub it into everyones faces. It is really good to win there. I hope our offense figures out how to be productive for at least 4 quarters. I think Vick needs some more snaps with the starting team and we need some more institutional stamina to avoid late game letdowns.

At least we still have New Orleans on our division to fight out the old rivalry. Does anyone here remember Big Ben Right, Bart to Jackson?

Well the Seahawks began their domination of the NFL this season with a 21-7 thrashing of the dammed-by-history Saints.

Hmmm. Lions won. Damn. I made almost every house payment a couple years ago by betting against my home team (practically guaranteed, depending on the book). Today I had to slink into the saloon, pay my losings on Michigan and the Lions this last weekend, and get a 'mercy drink' from the barmaid. Football sucks. I'm going to the Ryder Cup tomorrow, and I don't even like golf that much. Regards...Jack

My Dolphins did just about what I expected - Lost. The only bright spot, if there can be one, is they didn't lose by as much as I thought they would! It's now 15 games and counting until the end of Dave Wannstadt's coaching tenure at Miami...

How can they be out matched by a team they have beaten 5 times in a row?

KROC: My condolences. We put up with Blew Dredsoe for so many years, I know how you feel. All he has going for him is that if he ever succeeds, they won't have to erect a statue of him, since he is a statue. I wonder how Lawyer Milloy feels now?

The Patriots were not outmatched. They are deep, efficient, sensationally well coached, prepared, intelligent, and it's only Week 1. Brady finally has a very nice complement of skill players to work with; I don't care if they are not household names like Marvin Harrison, they WIN.

Fucking Bears. Here we go again. They set up for an easy field-goal to expand their lead to 10. I get up to take a piss. When I come back, they're down by 3. WTF??!!! Only the Bears. Oh yeah....against the LIONS (for those that forget Detroit still had an NFL team). GREAT!!!!

But I look at the bright side; it was only one loss.....against one of the worst teams in the NFL.....at home...........when's hockey start?

Both my AFC and NFC teams won (Bolts and Vikings). I'll have to savor the Charger win though. May not be too many more this year.

Bears lost a very winnable game. A lot of stupid penalties, dropped passes, and bonehead mistakes. Despite that, they showed signs of progress. I figured the Bears would start out slow, what with players on both sides of the ball learning new systems and a rook QB. The defense looked good and the offense showed some signs. Things will get better.

I'm surprised Alpha1 isn't in here going on about the Browns....oh wait.....

CactusA319 hit it right on the head about the bears...that game was theirs for the taking and they probably would have won if it weren't for the blocked field goal. I think that stunned everybody since he's (Edinger) almost always dead on from that close range. It will definitely be a rebuilding season but they're laying the groundwork for a good future I think. I look for them to be strong next year, maybe so so this year.

The Packers physically mauled Carolina last night and our offensive line owned the Panthers' vaunted front defensive 7.

Masterful old school smashmouth running football. Huah!

Defense played better than I thought, but some secondary concerns. Playcalling was solid as well based on down and distance, soemthing that's concerned me for a few years now.

And for you poor Bears fans....get ready! The NFL's oldest rivalry resumes this Sunday at Lambeau Field!!!

The Patriots lost every category but the score. I may exxagerate a little here, but understand I am holding this up as an example of a very well led, coached, talented team who has the will to win. I'm a fan.
