Argentina's Football Coach Resigns Tonight

Wed Sep 15, 2004 8:09 am

"With Argentina's 2nd Place in the Copa America, Olympic Gold in Athens, leading with Brazil the Qualifyers, and 4th place in the FIFA rankings, Marcelo Bielsa, dubbed 'el loco' (now we all know why), will resign this evening effective immediately, surprising everyone including AFA & FIFA..."

Well, it seems a large portion of the fans will get what they wanted.

I didn't love Bielsa, I did like his overall game plan but thought it was too rigid. That is, I think you can't always go to the attack and overrun your oponents with 6 or 7 players all the time. Sometimes you have to adjust to the way your opponent is setting up. That is how the world has seen Argentina play for a while now, including in the Copa America and the Olympic Games. A team attacking for 90 minutes. Argentina outscored all oponents in the Copa and the Olympics 33-6.

Having watched the games in both tournaments, I can say that in all of them, even in the losses to Mexico and Brazil, Argentina dominated completely. The games were mostly played in the opponent's half. But the so-called 'juego total' doesn't always equal a win. I don't agree with Bielsa leaving, but I think he might have taken all the critics too personally and that's why he is doing it now.

Many rumors flying in the world press tonight about the replacement. Carlos Bianchi, Hector Couper, José Pekerman, Carlos Bilardo all have been mentioned...

Hey KROC, Art Howe took a step up holmes. Being manager of the Mets is nothing to be proud of.  Big grin

I hope Bianchi takes over. Biesla created most of the problems through his actions. His refusal not to play Crespo or Batistuta in the same team led to the team's downfall in World Cup 2002 and his refusal to play Saviola is bewildering to say the least!

I do not like Argentinian Football at all, however I'm pleased he leave, he was under a lot of criticism in his country for a long time ago, now he proved he is good, he is a winner and left everybody begging him not to leave. Good decision. Now, for a replacement I wish they choose Hector Cuper so they'll arrive to the final on every tournament and then lose!!!  Big grin

KROC,

I was just about to type a entirely new thread about you, then I realized you don't justify one.

I don't care if you have 146,320,973,201,006,597 posts and your respect rating is 5 gigazillion (??), I've seen you, too often, where you don't have any business in, like here. If you don't care you are not obligated to read it. But, no. Not only do you read a thread starter you are not interested in, you actually click your mouse to open it! And not only that, you actually read it! And not only that, you actually respond to it!

And not only that... your replies 99% of the time have about as much value as my dog's farting. If someone where to go back to read your messages in this forum, only about 5 would be worth the calories spent on moving the eye muscles. Because most of them (and at least all the ones I've read), are exactly like the wonderfully insightful example above.

I didn't go into your threads commenting on how distraught you must be for a life if you like that circus of a sport called American NFL, because I trully don't care and had no business bashing you for it. Since you don't have the same courtesy for me or anyone else for that matter, well, it tells everyone about you doesn't it. I've never responded in all this lengthy time to the stupid comments you constantly make, I make my peaceful exception now.

The NFL? OK, at least you are not that desperate for action spend your weekends hours on fantasy football.
