The top 5 countries in the world in cosmetic surgery are all in the Americas.

Confused What? Why? Is there something in the air or what's going on in the Western Hemisphere? For the life of me I don't understand it, specially since in actuality all five of those countries are culturally, ethnically, economically and historically somewhat to very different from each other.

I have no explanation for that one!!

Other 'interesting' facts:  Smokin cool

In Egypt, 100% of all cosmetic surgery is done on women.
In India, 40% of all cosmetic surgery is done on men.
The world average for this is 88% women, 12% men.
In South Africa, 45% of all cosmetic surgery is done on patients under 21.
In Jordan, 1% of all cosmetic surgery is done on patients under 21.

Top 5 procedures for women:
1. Botox Injection (14.5%)
2. Breast augmentation (10.7%)  Big thumbs up
3. Blepharoplasty (10.6%)
4. Lipoplasty (8.5%)
5. Perlane Injection (6.1%)

Top 5 procedures for men:
1. Botox Injection (16.5%)  Wow!
2. Blepharoplasty (12.8%)
3. Rhinoplasty (11.7%)
4. Lipoplasty (9%)
5. Gynecomastia (8%)

Interestingly, Hair Transplantation is only 6th (?), with 6.3% (breast augmentation 0.24%... LOL). Check out your country and other 'fun facts' here.

Now, how many A.net members are suficiente macho to come forward and admit they been under the magic wand?

Big grin  Big grin  Big grin

ps- What the heck is blepharoplasty?

Do braces count as cosmetic 'surgery'?  Smile/happy/getting dizzy
(like any other punky white kid, I had them!)

I admit to this: I've had facials done about three years ago. I had acne as a teen, but nothing abnormal, in fact most of the people I know have had it worst. But since the doctors didn't even want to prescribe medicine, a friend told me to get a set of facials. Hell, it worked on me, what little I had went completely away!

Wow! OMG. That's man-boobs at its worst!

Ok I don't understand how its considered as an asthetic operation. For men to have a chest as big as a woman isnt normal and isnt the same as like an implant done by women.

Gynecomastia is an anomaly that should be treated with plastic surgery in my opinion. It comes from a greek word and it is when a man has female or female-like breasts. If that above is the surgery for treatment of gynecomastia then it is reasonable.

I would never, ever have plastic surgery done on me just because I feel like changing my looks. I am what I am and that´s it. I refuse to use hair colouring to tap away my grey hairs (and I already have quite a few...), let alone have someone cut in my body for fun. I would also never, ever accept my partner doing it.
My mother had plastic surgery, the most stupid thing that could get into her head. Reads too many showbiz magazines and wanted to join the club...

On the other side plastic surgery to solve anomalies, cure accident wounds etc is of course fantastic. I have a friend in Argentina who is surgeon and he really makes miracles come through with patients who really need it. But he indeed also performs the typical "my breasts are too small!" things (and makes a lot of money with it...)

Well my friend Levent, I'm not surprised, if there is one thing we in Argentina are good at is at reconstructing and reengineering human bodies. We many not be able to run an economy 100 meters before crashing it, but God forbid we don't have our surgeons...  Wink/being sarcastic

I know Dr. Roberto Zaldivar (through my mother's use of him and her friendship with the #1 secretary of him), though he isn't a cosmetic surgeon, he is a laser-eye surgeon. Literally, the he made his Mendoza Clinic the pioneer of many of the modern laser-eye techniques now used routinely around the world to drastically improve people's eyesight. For a while we had actors from all over the world comming down to have ops done.

AND N'UFFF with those nighmarish nipples already!

I'm still perplexed as to why the five countries were most cosmetic surgery is performed are all in the Western Hemisphere... Is there something in the air or what's going on?

SOUTH AFRICA- # procedures: 18324 / % worlwide: 3.50% / rank: 10

What is not mentioned here is the fact that a large percentage of procedures performed here are on foreigners, surgical tourism is on the increase here, we have a very high standard of private health care, the rate of exchange makes it attractive to tourists and after your surgery you can go on safari to recouperate  Smile

You will find that a vast majority of the ops are actually for Americans. You need only look at Mexico for this -- if the Mexicans were that vain, the population would likely not be able to afford the operations in such quantity.

Here is a story which was on a local tabloid show earlier this year about the price of dentistry in Australia, and what Andz above calls surgical tourism.

http://aca.ninemsn.com.au/stories/1647.asp

Sam was quoted more than $10,000 to have his dental work done in Australia. But Filipino orthodontist Dr Rowena Marzo charged him just $1800.........

Geoff has periodontitis, and his teeth have been decaying rapidly. "I needed 20 fillings unfortunately on 15 different teeth and I need a cap done on a rear top tooth."

He says it would have cost $3000-$4000 to have had the dental work done in Australia. In Manila, the total cost is $460.
..........

How much you save depends on the doctor, but the price difference in the Philippines is incredible. Some examples include:

$91 for a root canal compared with $1250 in Australia.

Porcelain crowns are nearly $1600 cheaper.

You can have a filling that costs $185 in Australia for only $9 in the Philippines.

X-rays and consultations are one-tenth of the price.

Of course, for major dental work can take up to two weeks depending on the work you need — and that's where the holiday comes in.
.....

It's hard to argue with the value for money in Manila — but there's somewhere else in the Philippines that's even cheaper. If you jump on a plane, in an hour you can be on the island of Cebu, the gateway to some of Asia's most beautiful islands. Also, in Cebu you can save up to another 70 percent on prices found in Manila.
