I Got My Revenge ): O

Sun Sep 19, 2004 3:44 pm

Lat night id just come back from stargazing in the garden, I was in my room on the computer typing up what id seen, out of the corner of my eye I saw this movment on my arm, I looked down and theres this effin spider on my arm (I bloody hate spiders, I know it sounds "girly", but I fear them, I cant even look at them), anyway I just froze, and I threw my arm out and the damn spider landed on the floor and went under the bed.
I hated sleeping in my bed last night, in fear of waking up and itd b there in my face or something like that above my head.
Anyway id gotten up to see Venus and saturn, around 4am, I came back at 6am and there it was on the wall.
I thought "im gonna get u lill bugger", I got out a slipper (and this was a medium sized spider) and just let rip and smashed it one against the wall.
lol, now Im in my room, and I dont have to worry about it anymore  Smile
But seriously, is there anyway of curing a phobia, by counselling or hypnosis, its really beyond the joke because my dad can pick them up in his hand, and I cant even look at one..
Its not the fall that kills u, its the sudden stop at the end..

Jkw777 is right.

Those are like flying spiders, can't stand them either.

Rob,

Don't feel alone! I have a disdain for spiders, too...especially here in the desert where we have lots of Black Widows!!

Spiders creep me out too. I try not to kill them though because I know they eat a lot of other bugs. Yesterday though there were two webs above my desk and that was just over the line! On another note, I saw these huge spiders in the world at the Berlin Aquarium - Banana spiders and those enormous tarantulas - can you imagine finding one of those on your wall?

Nice photos martin.

Speaking of spiders etc, I was at the bottom of the garden today getting our step ladders when I saw a huge spider hanging in the centre of its web. I wasn't too fussed but then I saw a 2X4 lying on the ground so I picked it up and hurled it at the spider in a javelin stylee and man the mess it made. I normally can't aim for toffee but this time I got the spider and sent it hurtling backwards obliterating it in a mushy, decapitated mess on the fence.

Afterwards I felt a little sad I actually managed to kill the poor lil bugger  Sad

I remember walking in the jungle in Thailand and saw this beautiful river just down the path, so I went down there but suddenly saw dozens of huge black spiders hanging in their webs from the trees around me. Since they belong there and I don´t, I got the hell out of there fast!

Of course, now you have a squished-spider smear on the wall  Smile

Don't worry, dude. Nothing sounds girly after you tell us you were stargazing in the garden.

Well, your "crane flys" are harmless insects, eating plant juices. They just use moonlight for orientation and get confused by the lights in your house.
I prefer spiders in my house to mozzies and other blood suckers. Once the net is abadoned, I clear it away with a hoover.
But I also own some insect eating plants.
Years ago I used to own two lizards and two American tree frogs in a terrarium. I used to feed them with crickets, but my then wife hated them, because occasionally a few crickets wouldf escape and she said they reminded her of cockroaches. I personally liked the crickets chirping away, it reminded me of vacations in some warm country, and since they can´t procreate in cold Germany they didn´t bother me.

What I hate are maggots, they make my skin creep and wanting to puke.

If you really study them....up close they are pretty interesting creatures like most other insects!  Big thumbs up

That's a hard one. I have the same phobia, but I also have a strange habit of picking up tarantulas and scorpions. (I cut the scorpion's stinger off first with nail clippers). Either way, I think that you may curb the fear a bit by finding a way to get used to them.  Smile

Luckly, there aren't any pest that really give me the creeps in my area-

Spiders/Archnids- none that I see

Fire ants- sting like a bitch but make piles you can see from a mile away. Fun to kill

Geckos/Lizards- eh, they never did anything to hurt me. Look kinda cool

Those aren't spiders.

Now these are spiders from my collection (taken about 6 months ago - I have 4 now and the 2 pictured are much bigger now).

I also took delivery of a juvenile Brazilian Wandering Spider last week. I am one of only 3 people in the UK to have one of those deadly MOFOs. I'll take a pic later (it's a bit poorly now due to the cold) and post it tonight.
I used to think the brain is the most fascinating part of my body. But, hey, who is telling me that?

I saw this one hanging on the fence a year ago at an airshow. I decided to throw a cricket at it but missed and landed below it on the web. Spider wasn't that hungry but none the less it was quite the looker.

A few years ago I spotted a spider in my room, it scurried under my bed and thankfully it got caught in one of those Sticky Mouse Traps. Spider couldnt move a flinch except to swing an antenna or so.
I left it there because I needed the trap to get some mice.

About 2 years passed and I forgot about the trap. I found that all the mice holes in the house has been covered up so there weren't any mice snooping about. One day I was doing spring cleans and I found that trap under my bed and to my amazement the spider was STILL there frozen in its same position when it first got stucked. I get a small stick and jab at it to see if it had been still alive after all this time and the thing just turned into powder..

As for flies and maggots oh man, sometimes I am a pretty weird guy. At my old work I was doing dishwashing and I got bored on one evening. I caught one of the few hundred house flies buzzing around the kitchen and the white belly that the females have.. I started squeezing it with some food scaps as tweezers. I almost passed out when I began to see the maggots oozing out of its abdomen and squirming about on the food prep table. They are so small and almost clear in color cept two tiny black eyes. Couldn't take the nastyness anymore so I smeared it with a paper and left it on my table for my boss the next day. .. I eventually ended up leaving the job..

Planespotter,

Are you sure the one you killed is really the same one, or are there others under your bed????

When I was in Africa there would be some serious bugs around our camp. I used to take a can of mosquito repellant and some matches and walk around the tent spraying then lighting anything I saw. It was quite satisfying.

just be comfortable with the fact that humans on average swallow about 10 spiders during their sleep over the course of a year.

I can't remember which forum it was in, but someone posted a pick of one of the biggest, creepiest things I have ever seen. It was taken by our troops in Iraq.

Now that on gave me a serious case of the heebee jeebees!!
