Another Reason Why Ya Gotta Love Texas...

Judges here love to punish morons more than usual, and some have a sense of humor in doing so.

I'm surprised this was allowed because it's so "unusual", but I think it's perfect. If only it were applied to all criminals everywhere.

Just out of curiosity though, how are they going to enforce this?

Severe punishment is only for the rich. Look at Enron, those guys stole mad money, and they may get 6 Mos. in prison. A black guy walks in and robs the 7-11, he gets 10-20 years. Something isn't right about the judicial system.

I think the guy should not be allowed to drive anything more powerful than a bicycle for his entire life.

Andrew Fastow (CFO) - plead guilty; sentenced to 10 years in prison; forfeit $30 million in cash/assets.

Michael Kopper (CFO aide) - plead guilty; awaiting sentencing, could get 15 years in prison and $millions in fines; already forfeited $12 million.

Ben Glison, Jr. (Treasurer) - plead guilty; sentenced to 5 years in prison; forfeit $1 million.

These are just a couple of the ones that plead guilty, and they're just starting the criminal trials on all of the others.

I don't know, the judicial system seems to be going in the right direction...

So have you given up street racing yet?

So what would be considered a low-powered car in Texas? Anything below 200hp?  Sad

Very innovative way of confronting the scourge of drunk drivers.

Sentencing isn't tough enough for FIRST time offenders throughout many states, IMHO.

Throwing a little Lone Star chutzpah into the sentence is a nice touch, hehe...  Wink/being sarcastic

Reminds me of Sherrif Joe Arpaio of Maricopa County (PHX), Arizona. Tent city, pink jumpers, chain gang. Old school. Gotta love it.

Delta- I own a mustang. I would race against higher end Asian cars (most of them with nitrous or turbo) like Supra's and Rx7's. Then I got more into going against American muscle. Like TA's and Z28's.

WOW, I wonder if they made Laura Bush do that when she killed at kid ??? Oh yeah I forgot punishment is only for working class criminals ... Texas sucks .... Hard !!!

Comparing this guy to Laura Bush is asinine. This guy was racing well in excess of the speed limit, while Mrs. Bush simply ran a stop sign. And it was before this current time of stiff punishments for vehicular crimes.
At worst, you screw up and die.

Thanks for taking DC10guys bait, now this otherwise tame thread will become yet another political flamewar in a few posts.

"The Enron gang didn't get near enough time.... How many hundreds of people where robbed of there retirement because of them ..."

Retirement?! Pensions are a thing of the past, they suck! They are the worst thing ever invented, because they don't make share prices go up and involve responsibility that one of the poor, hard-pressed corporations has to take instead of these bad, bad greedy pinko-commie workers (ugh, it hurt typing that word!) that only want more and more of the blessed and good-hearted CEOs' money!

Is the judge allowed to add on punishment to what the jury had already decided? I thought the judge in this case simply acted as a mediator.

Canarsie, yes, a judge can add on to a jury sentence, or even reverse it is he/she wants to. The only exception is the death penalty. That MUST be given by a jury of peers, AND it must be a unanimous vote.

That criminal justice course I took last year (and the one I just started) are already coming in handy  Smile!
