Former Classmate Caught Going 205MPH, MN Record

Tue Sep 21, 2004 11:31 pm

What an idiot. Not only did he get arrested, get a ticket for going 140mph over, but also set the MN record for fastest ever caught speeder. I hope he loses his license for life, thank god he didn't kill anyone.

"The bike was moving nearly twice as fast as Loney's airplane. After about three-quarters of a mile, the biker slowed to about 100 mph and let the other cycle catch up. By then Loney had radioed ahead to another state trooper, who pulled the two over soon afterward.

The State Patrol officer arrested the faster rider, 20-year-old Stillwater resident Samuel Armstrong Tilley, for reckless driving, driving without a motorcycle license — and driving 140 miles per hour over the posted speed limit of 65 mph."

That is what I call speeding.. If you are going to break the law, do it right.

This is really a breath of fresh air, the quality of work most criminals have been doing in the last few decades has really been shoddy, nice to see someone breaking the law correctly.

I hope he likes the bus

You know what would have been a real problem? If the biker had wiped out at 205 mph with a pizza strapped down on the seat behind him, it would have required an expensive DNA analysis to determine what was the biker, and what was the pizza.

Maybe he can take over Robby Gordon's ride on the NASCAR circuit.

As usual, the best part of this article is the end...

Tilley, the son of a Washington County sheriff's deputy...

I bet he doesn't pay a dime of his fine, and gets to keep his license. Gotta love it.

Good thing that law caught up with him before the laws of physics. That would have been ugly.

The timing is kind of ironic too. Just yesterday, the Pioneer Press was doing an article series on how speeding in MN has soared, especially speeds over 100mph.

"LOL Prosa. Imagine if a moose would've trotted out in front of him. Ick."

That moose would probably get to have a man-on-motorcycle-shaped hole in its body, like the ones you see in comic strips - and maybe he'd set a new trend among the moose in Maine!

That's why here in NE Ohio we call them "crotch rockets."

We had a guy go flying off one of these at the Bratenahl curves on I-90, a couple of years ago... He was wearing a helmet, but at nearly 200 mph that didn't do anything for his neck. People said his body went 30 feet in the air - not counting the distance traveled along the ground.

If he were to hit a moose, he would fly so far/high that Minneapolis Center would likely have him in radar contact.

Not a good choice. It's revocation time.

I'm watching Two Wheel Tuesday on Speed Channel and the host talked about this in the opening, and his comment was that the only way a Honda 1000 could do that kind of speed would have to be with some NOX bottles. He mentioned how $1 Million+ MotoGP bikes are just now breaking 200 mph, and he highly doubts the actual speed this bike was doing. 125 mph or so, yes, 200, not freaking possible on that bike.

The guy is a goober for even stopping. When I used to ride, this guy I used to know would pass cops at that speed and the would NEVER bother trying to catch him.

Oh ya, no such thing as a "Honda GSX" it's a Suzuki brand and the 1000 cc is one of the most incredible bikes there are.  Smile

motogp bikes are, just as formula one cars not made for performance on a straight but on a race track with many curves. their "flat out on a straight" performance means nothing and does not show their real performance.
a STOCK straight from the factory hayabusa do about 185 listed and 190 in good conditions(thats mph my friend). if you do minor mods you can get it to 210 with no problem and with a motor rework people have done 250mph on a busa. so with moderate mods, 205 on a honda is not too impossible and 125mph is a joke honestly. i can do that with my rally rigged dirtbike. in dirt not on pavement i might add.

The new Honda CBR1000RR Fireblade is a rocket, I read a road test in a British motorcycle newspaper that clocked it at 178mph into a 25mph headwind!

There is also a Ten Kate replica of Chris Vermeulen's WSB Fireblade that makes 200 bhp at the crank and will surely run 200mph. Scary stuff!

125mph is a joke, my 600 Yamaha beats that two up and my wife and I are no lightweights!
