As it just came out on DVD, and the media hype surrounding that, let’s talk memories you might have associated with the original trilogy....
I saw “Episode IV
” in ’77 at the age of 16. Probably saw it about 15 times that summer. Not that I was a ‘geek” but because my parents were going thru a nasty divorce, and I didn’t want to be home. The town I grew up in, Sugar Land TX
had a little one screen movie theatre, and had a $1 matinee, and so I spent a lot of afternoons there. So I’d pile into my first car, an 11 year old Lincoln coupe, and go to the movie. The next summer, and remember this was before home video became big, “Star Wars” was re-released, and I went to see it a few more times. Saw it in a drive-inn, in Houston, too. Man, I miss those big ass screens!
For “Empire Strikes Back” I cut out of one of my last days of class as a graduating senior in High School in 1980, to stand in line to see it at the long closed Tower Theatre in Houston. This was my favorite of the original three. I’ll stop doing whatever I’m doing to watch this one. I remember reading some fan sci-fi magazine, and how they claimed to have the full details of how the movie went. Totally wrong! My favorite character appears in this one, Boba Fett. It’s hard to “ACT II
” of a three act play, and I think it’s the best ‘cause it’s so “dark”.
For the third, and final installment, I went ONCE to see it. I think those damn Ewoks are worse than Jar-Jar Binks. I have watched this movie three times, tops. My daughters like it, and I just stay out of the room when it’s on. Just too “cute” for me. And Boba gets it, too.
So, there you have it. What memories do you associate w/the trilogy?
If you don't stand for SOMETHING, you'll fall for ANYTHING.
