Well, not much to say but "Good luck, Texans!"  Sad

"I really didn't feel like retying the entire thing."

Freudian slip! Big grin But still, hopefully, they won't have to "retie" everything.

This has got to be the single most amazing tropical system of all time! I figure, in a month, it will be meandering out towards, oh, Hawaii, or Guam, or Japan. Then, early next year, it'll show up back in Florida....

Death to Ivan!!  Big grin

LOL Falcon. This hurricane season has been nothing but weird. The first ever recorded hurricane in the South Atlantic, a hurricane moving from the Atlantic to the Pacific. I'd say a circumnavigation of the globe is definitely in order.

Let's rename this storm "Butch". Could you imagine spending a day with "Ivan" and "Francis"? Picture it, spending the day with your friends, Ivan and Francis...I'm thinking that day will be spent yawning at the library.

The Hurricane Center was apparently doing handstands over what to call this offshoot/remnant of Ivan. One faction wanted to give the next name in line (I think Matthew), another wanted to leave it Ivan seeing as the majority of Ivan went extra-tropical in the northern Atlantic.

I heard last night that one reason that the name Ivan was kept was due to governmental pressure against the insurance industry. Simply, government did not want to give it an additional name that would cause any damage from a newly named storm to create another insurance deductible that affected owners would have to be responsible for.

In other words, Hurricanes Charlie and Frances created two separate sets of insurance deductibles. A new name would have created another deductible.

As for effects of TS Ivan now, a bit of rain here, and about 20 mph winds, nothing out of the ordinary for us.

Last night on the Weather Channel they showed a 7-day satellite loop of Ivan. And what was pretty clear was that the center of circulation did stay intact and spin off on the Carolina coast, cross back over Florida and move back into the Gulf. Really quite interesting to watch, as far as the Weather Channel goes.
