What Did You Have For Supper Tonight?

Thu Sep 23, 2004 10:32 am

Well?

So what kind of vittles did you all fill your bellies with tonight?

In true minimalist Matt D tradition, I had about 5 or 6 strips of bacon, washed down with some Pepsi chugged straight out of a 2 liter bottle.

I sliced up an Aloges and put "it" on the grill for about 20 minutes. I then served it on a platter which everyone passed over to my great disappointment.

Perhaps it was overcooked?

Reheated some leftovers from last night and made the old classic dish of S.O.S. ($hit On a Shingle). I took the leftover mashed potatoes, reheated them, added some butter, garlic and cheese.

I've attempted that a few times......looked at the concoction laying in front of me, then picked it up, threw it in the garbage and went to Carl's Jr. instead.

Funny you should post this topic - I had a craving for mussels after I saw someone at the next table eating them at lunch. So I stopped at the store on the way home, grabbed some onion, some tomato, bag of mussels and a french stick...threw in a little garlic and wine...BAM! I feel like a gourmet chef.

Not a bad dinner at all tonight since I forgot to eat anything at all last night.

How the hell do you forget something as simple as eating?

I can see not being hungry or not having time.

But forgetting?

I didn't feel like putting together the usual assortment of crap found around the kitchen so I just stopped by Wendy's on the way home and picked up a cheeseburger, some chicken nuggets, and an order of fries, right off the value menu. Yesterday evening, I had a more typical meal, a hot dog and some leftover chicken.

....mmmm.... I'm seriously thinking about steak and eggs at the all-night joint. I haven't eaten dinner yet because I'm on the evening shift. Then again, I'm poor right now so it will probably be some overcooked pasta at home.

Well, I went to Wal-Mart today and I bought a stove-top grill. I then rushed to the supermarket and bought tons and tons of steak.

Anyway, to make a long story short. I made grilled steak with a heap of garlic mashed potatoes (made from scratch) and a side of Italian antipasto. I had an iced tea with the meal.

I just finished having seconds.

Diced chicken cooked in olive oil, garlic and spices, and coated with chickpea flour as it is cooked to get a nice crusty layer on each chunk. Served with long grain rice. Took all of 20 mins to make.

cheers

Threw some chicken breasts on the George Foreman grill, ate some before my workout, came back ate the rest, complimented it with a side of 'spanish rice' one of the 90 second packets you can toss in the microwave. Had it with a nice glass of Artic Wave Gatorade. Then topped it off with a succulent bag of Gushers.

The same crappy food I eat every night from the cafeteria here at school. We have a fantastic choice of Pizza, Salad bar, and grill food. Thats it.

I can't wait for a nice home cooked meal.

Looks like we have some chefs here! I love to cook, I scrapped together a tomato sauce out of two tomatos, one green pepper, four cloves of garlic, one bunch of green onions, salt, pepper, chili powder, and some olive oil. Simmered it for and hour and a half, blended it so it wasn't too chunky, then simmered it for another half an hour. YUM! It came out quite good, had it with some pasta.

I have no food in the house at the moment (just got back from vacation, haven't had time to go food shopping) - last night I had some beef casserole, it was in a tupperware in the freezer, I'd made it ages ago - just beef, onions, mushrooms, LOTS of red wine, herbs, garlic and beef stock - cooked that up, threw in a couple of big spoonfuls of uncooked cous-cous, let that cook in the stew juices. Mmmmmmm - it was pretty damn good.

I'm off again tomorrow to AMS so I can't be arsed cooking tonight - I'll probably get McDo.

Steak fajitas from the finest Mexican resturant in North Dakota, Paradiso. I can't complain though, $10 for all you can eat fajitas, washed down with $1.50 beer. Oh yeah, got a bowl of queso as well.

Last night I had a Pot Noodle with a bowl of cereal and some toast with vegemite on it.

I kind of eat randomly with that - I never distinguish between foods depending on the time of day so I could easily have curry for breakfast and cereal for dinner.

Last night I had IHOP. I didn't get home from work until around 1030pm and my roommate wanted to go eat. Since we had eaten at the Applebess across the street already this week. I hate the all you can eat popcorn shrimp and iced tea. Not exactly a stellar meal, but it filled the tummy.

Tonight, assuming I can get out of here at a reasonable time... I shall make a nice sausage manicotti... steamed veggies... garlic bread and polish it off with a nice glass (or two or three) of some red wine.... shiraz maybe... not sure...

Well 3rd shift "supper" at 2:30-ish AM was ( microwave reheated ) grilled chicken breast, grilled squash, grilled onion half ( vidalia's I've been saving ) and some seasoned potatoes....some raw radishes on the side.

If I was at home I'd have the same ( fresh off the coal-fired grill, not nuked ) with red zindfendel or a pint of some chewy beer.
