Possible Future Attacks In Major Europe Cities

Mon Sep 27, 2004 3:35 am

This week in London, some people were busted cause they wanted to buy some sort of nuclear stuff to make a so called "dirty bomb". For €440.000 they could get that and make whole London go radioactive (if you know what I mean). ONLY THE IDEA alone makes me  Sad  Sad  Sad  Sad. But I really think that London is one of the or THE city, where these kind of attacks or another one, will take place first.

Don't you think it's a scary idea that some people (again from a terrorist cel BTW) wanted to do this or that this possible in London or other major cities?? I'm just curious after reading that article.

Of course it´s not a happy thought. But that´s "just" the post 9-11, post Iraq invasion, post Abu Ghraib, ongoing Palestine occupation world we live in.

It is all but certain that extremists will try such an attack.

It is relatively certain that most attack attempts will be thwarted.

It is certain that we all will die sooner or later; But your personal probability of being harmed by a terrorist is still much, much smaller than being run over by a car.

Get the responsible people to do what they need to do, elect people who are decent and trustworthy, treat others with respect and above all get on with your life and don´t waste too much time being scared!

I'd say PAR may be even more of a target for attack than even LON, particularly after this hijab bullsh!t.

If someone wanted to, they could probably kill a lot of people in major cities. The answer is to have great intelligence, and to try and disuade people from killing people. When people in your own country want to blow up their own cities, invading countries around the other side of the world isn't going to solve the problem.

I live in Manchester, and there's not a lot you can do other than occasionally thinking what you'd do if a dirty bomb went off. I have a much greater chance of being hit by a car, so it's not much of a worry.

I was sitting in the beer garden at the Octoberfest yesterday here in Munich and I thought to myself that this would just be the perfect place to set off a bomb. Generally bombs could go off anywhere. Trains are good targets as we saw on 3/11.

I was about to take you up on that, then thought about it for a while....

...now I can see what you mean. It's just the kind of issue which would galvanise Muslim opinion to the point of a 'spectacular'. Especially the North African extremist variety of which there are plenty in France

When I heard of the Madrid bombings I was really surprised. Your right about that "perfect place" of yours. There are A LOT of those so if they want to attack/kill, sooner or later they will succeed in that.

But indeed as said, it should not let control your life. The chances are little.

The Munich Oktoberfest was already once the target of a terrorist bomb. Back in the late 70s (I think it was around 1978), some Neonazis blew up a fragment bomb in a dust bin, killing and wounding several people. But they left enough traces to get themselves arrested and sentenced for muder. Their goal was to spread panic in the population, create an atmosphere of lawlessness and then take over.

"dirtybombs" are just really a terror myth. While they will spread radiation in the immediate vacinity of the explosion, this radiation is very limited when compared to a fission or fusion device. There will be a higher risk of cancer and other radiation related problems with people in blast zone of the weapon. None the less, such a detonation would be horrendous and expensive to combat, but not catastrophic. A nerve gas attack would produce much more destruction and casulties than a dirtybomb.

I don't mean to ruin a good thing, but I think the first flight of the A380 is something to watch, it would be a symbol of something to the west like never before...I just got an odd feeling, I hope it's heartburn.
